Unfortunately, it's pretty boring

It's the opposite of the original "Suspiria" in most aspects ... it's long, drab-looking, not scary, there's tons of plot and its focused on empowering it's female characters rather than slasher film.

reply

Hmm maybe the issue was you went in to this film expecting a "slasher"
This film is definitely not for people who are in to slashers.

reply

Not necessarily. I'm a big fan of the original and was hoping this would be great too. It's ok, but not a patch on the original. I expected WAY more, after reading some people say it was incredibly fucked up.

Nope.

It's decent, though. Just nowhere near the original.

reply

Gonna have to disagree there, buddy. For me, the only good thing about the original was the music.
Everything else from the acting, directing and editing were all very bad.
Different stokes I guess.

reply

Well then, we simply disagree. The remake held nothing much for me at all.

Certainly not BAD. Just...absolutely no need for it.

reply

Yeah, that is fair enough man :-)

reply

the original had heavy slasher elements so i expected to have as well

I felt the same. I wish the movie had been about an hour shorter. I felt like there was about an hour of nothing really happening. I get build up, but this just got boring entering the hour mark. I checked the time and was like, "God, there's another hour and a half of this"

Movie had good visuals and acting, but the runtime needed to be brought down to be about an hour and fifty minutes.
Also, the act 1-6 seemed unnecessary, never felt like any of the acts had any climax, just went from one scene to the next.

reply

Saaaame.

reply

I hated it. My young millennial friend loved it. But maybe it's a chick movie, idk. I was watching the clock the whole time waiting for it to be over.

reply

I started checking my watch at the midway point lol

reply

If you're looking at the time, you know the movie's too long.

reply

it's long, drab-looking, not scary

This is it. I went in expecting something similar to the Original but this is more like "mother" which I hated plus its way too freaking LONG.

reply

If there is one thing that the first Suspiria wasn't, it's drab looking. The visuals really carried the movie.

reply

Yeah, when you’re remaking a movie known for its crazy use of color, it’s kind of weird to set the remake in grey, dull post-war Berlin.

reply

Agreed.

Witchcraft never goes with bleak colors.

reply

Yeah.
I hated that flick.

reply

I kind of get why they didn't try and recreate the colours and the music, because it would have been hard. The original is unique, it stands out, and I think it probably would have failed trying to copy it

However the original works for me as it is a simple story when you strip it back, with the visuals telling the story. The remake went too far the other way with far too much backstory.

The original feels like a dream/nightmare so it can seem weird to some but flows very good while as this dragged way too long.

reply

Yeah, it was a dud.

reply

I’ll take your advice and not watch it.
