AMAZING movie. Another ones like this? read!

Ok, I will not be writing on what was cool and what wasn't. This piece kickes ass hard.
I want to ask you people for movies similar to this description:

Required things, that have something to do with plot.

1. A monster/alien/creature movie.
2. The entity is partially explained in the flick. Not necesarily its origin, but what makes it tick and how to defend from it. Not necesarily kill it.
3. Remote/isolated/distant/never heard of environment.
4. Characters are discovering specifics of the entity on their own pace, not all things at the same time.
5. Suspence amd mystery!
6. At least SOME amount of action, or something that makes me go like: Oh, god, what happens next? what now!?!

Optional things that makes no difference and/or are not affecting the plot:

1. No annoying characters like in most Steven King's movies. ie, stupid/religious woman in The fog(remake) or stupid/annoying buisenessman from The langoliers
2. No stupid/sexy/highschool blondes and tits flapping around left and right.
3. The monster is preferred not being a zombie, although 28 days later redefined the genre.
4. No Uwe Boll. Actually that one should be in requirements.
5. Not necesarily a horror movie.

BUDGET IS IRRELEVANT! Same goes for the ending good/bad and the gore.

The most compelling examples of this description are:
The thing
Tremors (with its sequel)
Splinter
The faculty
Pitch black
Alien
The sphere
From dusk till dawn (Sure, it's vampires, but that one goes here because you never knew what hit'em until half of the movie, and then it got all of the required things)

So please. Feel free to add something to this list. Maybe we'll discover something together.

My favorite movie genre. They usually avoid the slasher cliche's and often end up being quite innovative. Although some are just good, unclean fun! :D
Here are some others you may or may not have seen:

Outpost - Nazi ghosts!
Slither - Body snatchers style gore fest. a little silly, but fun.
[REC] - Awesome spanish "zombie" movie.
Isolation - lessons in why genetic engineering is not for farmers
Creep - trapped in the london underground at night
The Descent - claustraphobic pot-holing with monsters.
Bad Taste - Peter Jackson debut. Aliens invade a small town.

Also worth checking out are the early films by David Chronenberg (Shivers, Scanners, Videodrome, Existenz) and Dario Argento (Blood Red, Suspira, Tenebre).

Enjoy!

Ok you might like these as well.

Feast (2005)
Dog Soldiers (2002)
Midnight Meat Train (2008)- was a bit lame
30 Days of Night (2007)- Another vampire flick
The Cave (2005)
The Relic (1997)
Dreamcatcher (2003)-Not such a great flick but ok for laughs.

If I think of more, will let you know.

Damn. I've watched everything mentioned in this topic. Anyone have any other candidate?

From pure creature-features, Jeepers Creepers and Feast are definitely my favorites.

reply

Carriers (Decent movie)
Bug (bad movie)
and/or some movie I hope someone knows the name (I don't believe it was mentioned) cus it's driving me nuts... they are also stuck in a gas station/convenience store. there are flying bugs trying to get them. they are quite large and they break the windows and everything. not sure if that is helpful. I also believe there was at least one big name actor in it but maybe not.

"The Mist" ... that's what it was... sorry for the confusion...

this movie actually reminded me a lot of the mist which is a stephen king movie.

TV movies turned out to be surprisingly good:
Infestation
Living Hell

In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritu Sancti.

"I need more sex, OK? Before I die I wanna taste everyone in the world."
-Angelina HOlie

reply

Ok, OP here. Thought I visit my own thread and find out what is recommended:) and recommend to you another flick I've just watched - The Crazies. (The remake) Non stop action and suspence, quite a good containment thriller/horror.
As for your recommendations, I've watched nearly all of them and enjoyed pretty much all of them besides The cave. Too much CGI on the monsters, and the movie tried too much being serious.. which it horrobly failed at.

Some more:

The Burrowers - a down-tone atmospheric western/horror hybrid with decent creature design, not particularly cheesy.

The Mist - already mentioned, but it's more of a supernatural psychological drama than anything else, and it's head and shoulders above most of the movies mentioned here, simply because of the fantastic writing.

Legion - this might not qualify since it's more of a religious action-thriller like Dogma than a horror movie, but it has people trapped in a diner in the middle of nowhere being attacked by demons, so the premise does apply.

reply

I personally thought the Mist was alright until the ending, which was really dumb. This movie was probably better.

reply

In Legion they are being attacked by humans possessed by angels. Just to clarify.

reply

Not all of these have creatures/aliens/monsters, but qualify for some of your other criteria

Catacombs
Eden Log
Cube
Cube Zero
Feast
Quarantine
Below
Wild Country
Wilderness
The Ruins
Ghosts of Mars
The Long Weekend

reply

All these good movies, (and a few bombs), and no one mentioned Pumpkinhead, which is one of my favorite monster movies of all time.

reply

Event Horizon is another good example.

reply

Pontypool - good Canadian film, preferably don't read anything about it/what's going to happen etc., just watch it.

reply

Doghouse - bunch of guys go for a booze cruise to a small town where the woman out rank men something like 3 - 1, and they get there only to be greeted by a bunch of man hating woman zombies!

Candy Tastes Like Chicken If Chicken Were A Candy
-Toki Wartooth, Not A Bumblebee

reply

Night of the Creeps
Black Sheep (2006)
The Abyss
Deep Blue Sea
Wild Target
Severance
Panic Room

reply

Yeah...Black Sheep!

and what about 'the Fly'?

reply

Everything so far is quite an entertainment and follow the rules, but Wild target?
I mean as THIS http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1235189/ wild target?
How is it a containment-monster movie?
Others from all of the responses are mostly good, though.

reply

Panic Room?...ok... :/ that's totally not what they asked for.
And Deep Blue sea is terrible!

reply

Reeker
Rest Stop

However, most people think the above-mentioned movies are bombs.

Demons
Demons II

Outstanding topic, Kudlatey True: and some great titles mentioned already. Love this type of movie more than any other, and I'm always keen to find more examples.

A few of my favourites are:

"Deep Rising". (How I wish a sequel to this had been made).
"Death Machine". (Brad Dourif, an outstanding mechanoid and a Brummi Samurai. Awesome, and a largely under-rated film, I think).

Heyhofo mentioned "Burrowers" earlier, and I gotta add my own praise for that movie - an intelligent script, a well developed and immersive storyline, memorable characters with believable motivations and some pretty terrifying monsters. Beautifully filmed.

I was surprised as well by how enjoyable "The Descent 2" was. Big fan of the first one (and of "Dog Soldiers"), but didn't think a sequel would amount to much. But not too shabby an effort at all.

Also, 2 movies with existing animal species as the protaganist:
"Rogue", which is a killer-croc-traps-tourists movie that is nail-bitingly good. And "The Reef," a superior film with stranded day-sailors and a hungry great white shark.
