First Half vs. Second Half

I love this movie I think this alongside Planet Terror were just amazing. My biggest problem with this movie is that the first group of girls are so unlikable. They are all stuck up and,"too good." They were weak and I'm assuming that's why they were killed like nothing. The second group are just the type of badass girls that don't come along often. They don't just get over it and the fact that their still alive, they fight back which is misunderstood by most audiences.

1st half.

I like the first half was better. The girls, the atmosphere, everything about it is much superior.

I agree in a way. The first girls have more storyline to them but nothing too special in my opinion. I mainly liked the last 30 minutes with the chase scene.

1st half and the last car chase are the best parts of the film. I really disliked the 2nd half's characters and their dialogue.

2nd half. The girls were funnier and I loved the car chasing sequence. But having said that, I love the slasher atmosphere of the first one. It creates the "pre-slasher" feeling where everything is completely normal with a few "Uh oh" moments here and there but it's a slasher (modeled after the 70s') so you know sh_it is gonna go down soon but you have no choice but to anticipate it and wonder.

Second half...definitely. Zoe Bell on that Challenger is enough argument to win hands down. It was just so incredible to see strong female characters kick some serious butt and not wimp out like some bimbo who sprains her ankle before the knife weilding maniac kills her. Though much of what I'm reading seems to indicate that people think these three women going after Mike after he tried to KILL them indicates that they are radical feminists and that they are "uglier" than the first group of girls. WTH? Zoe Bell and Rosario Dawson ugly? We should all be so cursed. Looks like Misogyny is still alive and well.

I found the girls in the first half (and keep in mind I genuinely loved the first half...but if I had to pick...) a little too in love with themselves and perfectly willing to drink and do copious amounts of drugs then go get in a car and drive. Not good. The second girls were just defending themselves against a maniac. If I had to pick a role model for behavior for my daughter it certainly wouldn't come from the characters in the first half.

Agree with you 100%. I can't understand why people liked the first half more... I mean the characters are so terrible flat. The girls in the second one had way more personality and were the most intresting by far.

The women of the second half are far from role models. They pimped their friend out to a stranger in a shack and never went back for her all so that they can go for a joy ride in the owners car. Are you freaking seriously gonna say that you'd rather have your kid be like them? It doesn't bother me that they went after him but ti does bother me that therm bitches with their noodle arms think they can take a guy like Mike in a fight. The problem with Mike is that its a total personality change in the Second half. He's a different person and a total coward. It was so inconsistent it was painfully annoying. Just defending themselves it fine but then murdering the guy instead of ting him up for the cops? They'd be arrested all the time in the real world. It's Tarantino's worst film and even he admits it.

Old post I know. The second half and Mike's weakness came off AFTER he realize those chicks were bad-ass and willing to beat his ass. The challenge was set and they didn't cower, which scared him.

Black men and a whole lot of *beep* white men have had plenty fun adoring my ass JUNGLE JULIA

Elements of both halfs were enjoyable, but the dramatic differences between the two is what made the film as a whole quite off setting.

I would have preferred the "horror vibe" from the first half all the way through the film.

i'm glad the car chase was so entertaining, because those girls yapping for 2 hours before-hand was sleep inducing. It was like being a tupperware party (girls siting around talking crap). I never walk out on a film, but 'peeuuueeewwww'.

I agree the first half is more interesting.

Mike is an interesting character and then it feels like the second half is too easy for the women. And just disappoints, sure cool stunts etc but its not a full story in my mind.

reply

1st half is much better. You are presented with these misterious character Stuntman Mike and a group of girls and we know something is gonna happen but we don't know exactly what. Then we learned that he's a cold hearted killer/maniac. Plus the whole atmosphere and texture are more interesting, not to mention a super sexy lap dance.

In the second half Stuntman Mike is nothing like we've learned in the 1st half. He's sloppy and dumb. The car chase although incredible is a little bit too long. I like the girls in the 2 nd half too...
I guess the whole plot of the movie was to portray girls that fight back when faced with an inconsistent although interesting serial killer...

reply

The reason why Mike is inconsistent is because the first half of the film is *his* half. You could say it's through his viewpoint. Everything in the first half is significantly more vintage and if it weren't for the girls car and the cell phones there would be no indication of it happening in modern day. Even the look of the first half, the old film stock worn to hell and back with significant hiccups, speaks to this. It's stuntman mike playing himself in the same old film. It played out like an old slasher flick.

The second half also starts from his perspective, but notice that the black and white goes away when he does. So does the old, worn film stock and all its grain and glitches. It's not from his "perspective" any more. It's a modern movie and old stuck-in-the-past stuntman mike has made the mistake of pulling his *beep* on modern women and he gets *beep* up for it. Second Half Stuntman Mike isn't like what you learned in the first half because that was biased. When the girls can fight back he shows his true colors.

First Half. Had the right atmosphere, dialogue, character introduction, etc.

Nothing enjoyable about the second half other than parts of the car chase.
