Death Proof or Jackie Brown

Let it be known that I am not comparing Death Proof to Jackie Brown(well, I am actually, but not that Death Proof is just as good as Jackie Brown- because it's not).

What I'm asking is that a lot of people say that Jackie Brown is Tarantino's least violent/gorey film, and while I think they are right about that, how come no one has brought up Death Proof? Honestly, the story line is pretty decent, but I actually just think people would expect more violence from Tarantino and that's why it is considered to be his worst (in his own eyes as well).

So, what are your thoughts? Jackie Brown had just as much talk as Death Proof, except that the talk in Jackie Brown was actually interesting and comical, rather than the redundant fashion talk. (That coming a 16 year old girl, so no hate!)

Everywhere I go people wave at me. Maybe if I'm extra nice, they'll use all their fingers!

Death Proof is Tarantino's best film since Jackie Brown

Death Proof and Jackie Brown are by his worst films because the dialogue is nowhere near as interesting as it is in his other films and more 'wanky'. Death Proof is better than Jackie Brown because of its great climax, but both are just mediocre with rather dull dialogue (compared to his other films)

I don't think so, the dialogue in JB is more mature, because the story is more mature

And the dialogue in DP is chick chat, because its a slasher film, its a genre convention; and Tarantino tries to makes us feel like we're hanging out with them, so we could feel some kind of empathy for the girls

Yes, I agree that Deathproof wasn't a standout violent Tarantino film. What it did show was a director showcasing a love of 70's car movies. Remember people, Tarantino loves to explore genres and he will never rely on a specific one.

Jackie Brown is my favorite QT movie but it was Death Proof that made QT my favorite director. I saw Grindhouse 4 times in the theatre and several more times on dvd/bluray. That cool intro to DP blew me away the first time I saw it. QT always has good music in his movies. It just ticks me off though that all of the songs from his movies are not on the soundtrack cds...lol

Jackie Brown is my favorite of his and in my top 10 of all time. Death Proof is my least favorite of his by FAR, but I still thought it was a good movie overall. Just goes to show how good Tarantino is.

Jackie Brown are you serious? How is this even a thread. Jackie Brown is probably Tarantino's most mature film. The characters in it are awesome. I'm a fan of Death Proof for sure but it is just a fun movie, Jackie Brown is great 90's cinema. Death Proof started a new era of Tarantino and made room for Django Unchained. I thought that Inglourious Basterds meant he veered away from the sappy story telling but not so much as Django came in with the same immature style of story telling.

I'm late in here only watching Death Proof the other night. It's also a while since I've seen Jackie Brown.

For me Death Proof is the most violent out of the two, the car scene murder with the multiple shots being a very violent scene. I'd even go as far as to say it was beautifully shot for a scene so violent.

The problem is the rest of the film doesn't have much. While it's also a while since I have seen Pulp Fiction, the random conversations between characters were interesting and written well and importantly memorable. Death proof's conversations however where just filler, forgettable random conversations that in most instances didn't add much to the characters and if removed wouldn't have felt missing.

Death Proof however is a good representation of a grindhouse movie, which can work as an advantage or a disadvantage. I do prefer Planet Terror but this takes the grindhouse movies and overblows them, feeling like a parody. I do also agree though that the speeches in Death Proof themselves sometimes feel like a parody of Tarantino

So, to sum it up, you are not only comparing Jackie Brown to Death Proof, two entirely different movies, but also calling the latter "not violent" and the first "interesting and comical"?
Non-sense overload! 
If anything, Death Proof is lots of fun, and Jackie Brown is the boring one.

🐺 Boycott movies that involve real animal violence (& their directors) 🐾

I enjoy Jackie Brown and Death Proof quite a bit. They are my top two favorite Tarantino flicks. Jackie Brown is the better film, but as far as entertainment goes, they're on par with each other. Both fantastic.
