How about a U.S. version?

I saw this movie a good while ago, and aside from the annoying British accent, I enjoyed the movie. If they would just remake this for the U.S., then even the dialogue could be enjoyable. I couldn't always understand what the bad guys were saying. And it's a shame this film doesn't have a happy ending either. Does anyone else think this should be made in America?

The 'Bad kids' scenario could be set anywhere, though remakes of any film often dilute the action, and affects status of the original, in my opinion.

Sometimes, (clear) dialogue can less important than the kids' hostile / indifferent body language, and actions, which conveys far more.

Hell no. No need for a remake, the movie hasn't been released so long ago, what would be the point of a remake? Just so that the lazy American viewer won't have to bother watching a movie made outside of their country?

reply

I can't tell if you're being serious.

It's a big world out there, and stories do happen outside of the US of A. Get hold of some subtitles if you can't manage the kids' accents. They were pretty thick.

Happy endings... matter of taste. I enjoyed this ending. There are already far too many (hum... American) movies with imposed happy endings, it gets quite dull. It's sometimes painfully obvious that the Producer just went: "Hmmmm... nope, don't like the ending. Make sure he gets the girl and live happily ever after."

Bottom line:

1) Why re-make a movie that is already very effective and that was made so recently?

2) I'd bet my car that an American re-make would be significantly inferior.

I'll take that bet, but only if your car was made in the good ole U.S of A.

reply

Then you'd be winning an inferior car.. are you deluded or do you just know very little about cars?

Ya Kirk-loving Spocksucker!

I know as much about cars as you apparently do about sarcastic humor. Nothing.

An American remake would undoubtedly be inferior. They usually are, with horror anyways. Case in point? Rec/Quarantine. The Oldboy remake was atrocious, the list goes on. The violence is always toned down for American audiences, I'm not sure why. When it comes to horror, the foreign films tend to be best, especially the French made ones. There's talk of a Martyrs remake, which is ridiculous because they're going to absolutely butcher a great horror flick. Eden Lake is good just as it is

That sounds awful.

Working in the movie business since -92

I could already place it in America, in my mind. Young couple from...let's say...suburban Atlanta, decide to go to some random lake in Podunk, Georgia...meet up with some drunken hillbillies and their devil dog...voila. Hilarity ensues. Go back to suburban Atlanta, quick.

End of the world? So what.

reply

Simply put, no need. This is a very good british movie. Things like that could happen anywhere in the world.

Nah, I am legal to hold and carry a firearm. Besides the fact that I am a grown adult with a relatively sharp intellect. I would have executed the dog in a hurry and then given the little boys a quick teaching. This story wouldn't work in the USA.

This has to be a joke. Are you so insular to feel that you can't relate to the story line unless the accents are american? You must represent the demographic in hollywood's market research that convinces it to remake european or asian films in the U.S to accommodate a greater narrow-mindidness. Actually, I correct myself; I can understand the need to retell a story in a different language, but this is stupid. I hope this story is never retold to suit your culturally limited appreciation...happy ending..are you effing serious!? Lame opinion. And i didn't even like the film.
