what is the point of the multiverse

When I first heard of the "multiverse" I thought...ok it might be a way to bring in the Xmen and the FF into the MCU.
But now they are going bat shit crazy with the idea.

What's in "What If...?" stays in it. The original comic book series was exactly the same but the Disney show seems to be sticking to the MCU world and bases the show on alternation of already done project.

So far we got the alternatives for Captain America and GOTG the entire series run might be based on that and probably includes the MCU TV shows.

Multiverse is just a silly writers "fresh ideas" card when comic books ran out of plots and ideas they jumped and reset the universe and somehow this is how the MCU is fading out into by the next 5 years.

"What is the point of the multiverse?"

Disney squeezing more money out of a franchise that should have wrapped up with ENDGAME.

Multiverses have always been a doorway to pervert iconic characters, satisfy lunatic fringe groups and say "Don't get mad, folks, it's not canon."

I'll tell you this much. In the comics "What If" was taken as a serious effort to answers questions about what would change if something was done differently, i.e. the Butterfly Effect. Sometimes it would be humorous.

This series seems to be taking the opportunity to poke fun a the MCU. Definitely needs work if it wants to make it past the first season.
