300 Dollar Purse??? What A Bunch Of B****es....

The scene towards the end where Samantha's dog is humping a pillow at Carrie's place. Carrie says, "by the way, that pillow cost $300..." What kind of degenerate spends that kind of money on a throw pillow like that? The extravagant lives these women lead...does this sicken anyone else? Do they have no sense of morality? Are they completely oblivious to the poverty some people are trying to survive? I thought this aspect of the movie was sickening.

I never understood people who biatch about how much people spend on things. What is the point earning big bucks and eating cheap beans and shopping at primark? Plus, the film wants you to imagine being your favourite character. Why would you fantasize about the poor housewife who struggles to feed herself and is married to a loser? It's fantasy. Get into it. And if I could afford to spend £300 on a pillow I probably would. And I wouldn't be happy having my friends dog shag it either!

Some fantasy films enable you to route for a young woman who strives to end oppressive, hurtful societies. Other films are fantasies about douche women inspiring other women to be equally douchey.

It was not a purse, it was a cushion. Anyway, 300 dollars can be expensive for some people but not for some of us. I think now, many people are used to pay too little and do not value enough people's work and therefore complain when there are things they can't afford. In the movie, we are not told if the cushion was hand made, if it was especially designed, if it was silk, etc...we don't get any details, so we can't just judge. I don't mind paying for quality things, especially when I know they have been made in my country, where people gets paid well (we have the higher per hour wages in the world) and we value fine artisanal work. It helps to boost the economy of the country and also the economy of the city, and thus it means that it will benefit the community in general.

I am sorry but I find these types of posts to be overcritical.

When Sex and the City first aired the economy was not that bad and people weren't suffering like they are now. Most were getting by and aspiring to live like Carrie. They tried to bring the same extravagance to the movies made later on and it did not transfer well. The economy tanked and Carrie's life seemed way too extravagant and wasteful. But it can be fun to watch as a fantasy. I would love to have Carrie's life (or any of the girls) but it would be a far less realistic goal in our current economy. Here's hoping for better times!!!

I'm with you! However, I'd never want Miranda's life. Working 50, 60, 70+ hrs/week at a law firm for YEARS?!?! I don't care HOW much she made. In reality, you'd have zero time to enjoy the money! Plus she has a guy who makes WAY less, AND had to live with her mother-in-law with Alzheimers!!! Hell no to that life. Just....no.

reply

What would be the issue with the husband making way less? If she makes enough, they would have a comfortable life.

Why did you say PURSE first?

Mindfart.... 

I'm sure YOU only spend money on pure necessities and never more than anything base or else that would make you ta degenerate.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

I've never understood why people get so hung up on how other people spend their money. If you think more funds should help the impoverished, rustle up some and do it yourself.

Also, this is Sex and the City. Escapism. I didn't spend $10 on this movie to watch Carrie peruse a 2-for-1 Dots bin.

reply

Totally agree, old friend!
