I think DCEU is over the "growing pains" hump now

People can probably rest easy (if it's that serious for you lol), simply because there's no more rushing to a Justice League movie anymore. People forget that JL was waaaaay into production before Warner Bros. started rearranging things with Geoff Johns. Also there's now time for more character building solo films before we get another JL film. I think for the most part DCEU's problems are over with.

Never underestimate Hollywood greed and ego to get in the way of making good movies.

reply

You're right

Now they'll rush to salvage what they can by releasing another shitfest. Probably something like a "Flashpoint" to further confuse the non-comic book readers just to say "seeeee???? Justice League never happened.... it was just Sad Afflecks nightmare", or something

reply

I am wondering if they are going to go with a more streamlined approach and drop the stringent cinematic universe story telling. Concentrate on WW2 and The Batman and hope Aquaman is not DOA, slow down and get it right. If those go well perhaps restart the Flash movie and do MOS2. They have released 5 films, of which only one is truly successful critically and financially.

What really hurts is the disappointments here were not solo Aquaman or Cyborg films that can be easily worked round but the BIG MAJOR EVENT films that should have been the pinnacle of all they were doing. So its a tough road they have created with these misfires.

If the brand was so badly damaged WW would have bombed at worst, or under performed at best. But that didn't happen, people liked WW....like A LOT. People also forget Suicide Squad had legs, and people seems to like that film for better or for worse.

reply

WW performed well because it's WW's FIRST TIME on the big screen.

Tell me someone outside DC fans that liked the SS movie? Because if they did it wouldn't have received the amount of negativity it rightfully got.

reply

DC fans wasn't the only people going to see SS. DC fans or Marvel fans can't carry a movie by themselves.

reply

obviously, non comic book readers also see these movies. And their reviews say it all

reply

Their reviews are inconclusive and mixed. There's no clear consensus on jack shit.

reply

the consensus is pretty well known. Just google it.

^EXACTLY!!

There is no real DC brand or Marvel brand... 90% of the audience don't read comic books and have no idea which is which... And it's OK...

If you want an example of how much this is the case you can see how much people complain that War for the Planet of the Apes didn't have a big final war "boss battle"... They're that conditioned that they didn't realise they weren't watching a Transformers movie... It'll one big blockbuster oneness...

There is no brand... Just the same CGI explosions... the same orange and teal cinematography and edits... every... four... seconds... The same score... the same spandex clad characters... AND it's ok... It'll continue until there is a comicbook/superhero movie and TV show released every other week, then people will get over the saturation, or not... It's ok...

Your favourite characters are safe... even if the movies suck, they're still making money, they'll still be made... they have the herd protection of the blockbuster comicbook oneness to hide in...

It's like the 80s action hero movie... it lasted well into the 90s... and overlapped with the family friendly james cameron action adventure that continued until Avatar... It won't die, or go away... there will be many versions of the same thing, with minor changes that accumulate over time...

It's OK...

If DC has gotten past their growing pains, is it fair to say they grew up ugly and stupid?

reply

They can always resort to plastic surgery.
