Anyone else think this film is trying way too hard to be a cult film?

I saw this last night with a shadow cast and I just felt like the entire movie was trying too hard to become a cult classic. It was kind of poor. I know there's a lot of die hard fans but someone must agree out there. As a long time fan of Rocky Horror I was excited to see something else with shadow cast and I was pretty let down....

i couldn't really say I'm a huge fan so my opinion is biased I do know that it was a play way before a movie (like RHPS) and I'm pretty sure the director never thought it would be a movie at the time he was making the play

what do you see when you turn off the light? i can't tell you but i know its mine- beatles

reply

Are you sure? I thought Terrance Zdunich created the whole thing.

I don't know. I'm trying to watch it right now, and had to get on imdb just to see what other people had to say. I may be handicaped from the start, due to the fact that I've never been a fan of musicals, but I'm finding it really hard to get thru this movie. I want to like it, but it's just not working for me. Maybe I'd like a non musical, straight prose type of movie version of this, 'cause I find the idea for the story fascinating. Oh well.

reply

Yeah, see the story idea is definitely interesting. It's the execution that's the problem.

Couldn't agree more. It's probably the most forced effort to try to duplicate the success of Rocky Horror there's ever been. You can't force a cult, it has to develop organically.

I couldn't have said it better myself. That post deserves it's own "like" button.

I can't really answer the question. I really liked the film, but Alexa's singing voice to me is a little distracting because she isn't very good. That's the only thing I didn't like about the movie. Also some parts, like someone said, they are always singing and sometimes its a little too much

I dont think its "trying to hard", but it definetly isnt for everyone.

I resisted this movie for a while because I am not a fan of any type of Opera's even Rock ones. I watched it and loved it so much I watched it again the next day. I've seen it 4 times so far in a weeks time.

Maybe.

But I still like it anyway.

I absolutely agree.

I think a film that was trying to be a cult classic would have had worse production values.
