Good episode (S8E5), I thought
Even though the spoilers had already been posted, I still liked the drama unfolding on-screen. I thought it was better than the last two weeks', that's for sure.

Much better. I could see it. And most of the script was good except for the many coincidences which ruined the show for me.
Euron just happened to bump into Jaimie.
The Hound just happened to bump into the Mountain.
Jaimie just happened to bump into Cersei.
Remove two coincidences and let one happen more organically and the show would've been really good.
I liked the beginning which was subtle. Varys was trying to have Dany's food poisoned. Nice.
Euron just happened to bump into Jaimie.
The Hound just happened to bump into the Mountain.
Jaimie just happened to bump into Cersei.

Euron jumped off a ship and swam all the way back to the beach. He then wasn’t tired at all and instantly started a sword fight with Jaime who happened to be right there. Pretty silly.
Plus, the dragon was torching the city. There was no point in having a sword fight anyway. Nobody would be alive to know or care who killed Jaime.
Dude, Euron was obviously tired and pulled a dagger on Jaime, who still sucks at fighting with one hand. If Euron had been fresh, it would have been a short fight. That’s a non-issue.
Euron’s arrival from the water at that precise moment and location, plus his desire to even fight Jaime at all WAS dumb, though.
It's like they were trying to make his death epic in some way but it was very pointless and dumb. It would have been more satisfying to see him die on the ship from the dragon.
shareBetter ways to kill him:
* via dragon
* via Theon’s sister
* via another sea captain, like Davos, in a ship battle
* have Euron dragging Cersei away and Jaime spring to rescue her
This! ALL this!
shareShip battle with Davos - yes, please! The character of Davos has been so underused, as of late.

Euron was kinda nuts. In case you didn't notice. Getting into a swordfight for no good reason, just so he could say he slayed the kingslayer, that's perfectly in line with his character. As well as taking his own death in stride like it's no big deal. Did I mention he was a little nuts?
It's awfully convenient that Euron happened to reach shore just at the moment Jaime was passing by. Aside from that, he had a good death scene and went down fighting.
He wasn't nuts. He was very flamboyant and over the top but the stuff he did was all calculated. Taking over the iron born, kidnapping Yara, aligning with Cercei, killing the dragon, these were all things that he had planned to do in advance. He wasn't just some wacko who randomly did this stuff. For him to do anything other than try to find a way out of the city alive was stupid and out of character.
shareTo a certain extent his actions were calculated. But there were many times when he took crazy risks that could've gotten him killed. Euron's success owes as much to luck as planning. He was very much a live fast, party hard, fortune favors the bold kind of guy. Not someone who was likely to die in bed at the age of 95. I always pictured his death more or less as it was. Whatever and whoever actually killed him, he'd go out with a quip and a smile on his face. He was never going to see the error of his ways in his final moments or ask anyone to forgive him.
shareI see what your saying about his character. He was a risk taker and most of his success was luck. I still thought the scene was bad though. Jamie just happens to be alone in the area that Euron happens to swim to, it was too much. Also it was unnecessary when they were both going to be dead at any minute from dragon fire.
shareThey could've escaped. Drogon was focused on destroying the city, not killing every last ant outside it. Jaime could probably have gotten away with Cersei if he managed to get her there before the passage to the caves was sealed off.
Yeah it was amazingly convenient that Euron happened to wade ashore at the exact spot where Jaimie was walking. That he would insist on fighting him doesn't surprise me though. He was like the boyfriend jealous of his girlfriend's ex. It was a male rivalry thing. That's why he made sure to mention that he f*cked the queen, because he knew it would goad Jaime into facing off with him.
throw in the fact that ONLY he managed to swim to the shore out of his whole army. Either it makes sense that this is where he swam ashore, which means it makes sense where most of the other sailors swim ashore. Or it makes no sense for him to have swam ashore here. Unless of course they want us to believe that he is the Sole survivor of the attack... and that would just be stupid writing.
shareI'm sure others came ashore on the much larger beach that wasn't right in front of the secret save entrance to the Red Keep. There's no logical reason why Euron - and only Euron - would happen to be there, at that exact moment, except pure plot convenience. It's a minor enough suspension of disbelief as far as I'm concerned.
But if I was directing the episode, I would've had a scene with him paddling his way toward shore and spotting Jaime's escape boat. Or perhaps seeing how exposed his other men were on the beach with a dragon flying around, then looking over toward the little protected cove. Either of those things would provide a logical reason for him to head in that direction. It would still be convenient as hell that he happened to arrive at exactly the right moment of course. Thirty seconds later and he would've missed Jaime entirely.

The fleet wasn't that far out. It's entirely plausible most of the Ironborn could swim that distance to shore. Might as well call it like it is though: the convenient location and timing was a contrived plot device to bring Jaime and Euron together. The odds of something like that happening by chance would be ... low.
shareEuron was swimming to the shore where Jaimie was passing through. So what?
The Hound was LOOKING for the mountain. He had a good idea where he would be.
Jaimie was LOOKING for Cersi. He had a good idea where she would be.
Jesus Christ, reading some of the complaints on this board is laughable. If this show has really started bothering you this much, just turn it off. Wow.
When they brought Jon back from the dead...did you all say "that never would have happened!!!"?
Oh well, I'm enjoying the hell out of this season, and can't wait until the final episode.
I'm almost excited to read everyone crying on here after the final episode. I'm guessing they're "source material" nerds, who were never going to be happy with how anything went after they ran out of source material from the books.
The nitpicking is getting insane though, which I guess is to be expected with a show as big as this one, but damn, these nitpicks are getting laughable.
They can bring people back from the dead like the Frankenstein monster, but two people ending up on a beach at the same time is blasphemy??? Lol. Give me a fucking break.
Season 8 has been awesome. Can't wait for the final episode!
I agree that was a good episode. Also, we had a combination of several resolutions and the development of one big problem.
shareI like the music at the end credits. They mix the one from Cersei's trial with the Lannister fight song and it ends at the same place where the Sept blew up.
