Favourite Scenes

OK so this thread probably won't last very long with a 2 hour only production but I'll get the ball rolling ...

Catherine is formally introduced to Henry .... 'now we can talk to one another' .. 'we've already been talking'

First Dance scene .... 'why would he be looking at me?' .... 'because he likes what he sees'

Apple catching ... the look on the girls faces is just so fresh and joyful

Mud spot removing ... the way he holds his face in her hands .... swoon!

The Kiss .... the way they just want to throw their arms around each other but are slightly nervous about it.

Do you like these bits? Any more?

Agree with all the scenes you mentioned Fifitrix.

The hesitant kiss was just so cute - totally convincing!

A few others which made me smile:

I loved when Henry said, at the second dance, had it ever occurred to Cathy he may not be the best person to consult on the matter of John Thorpe - it's like Henry is saying: I play no games!

Henry teases Cathy and speculates what she will write on her diary and she says perhaps she does not keep one - then we see her scribbling away in her diary before going to sleep.

In the carriage back from the ball Cathy is slightly disappointed to hear Tilney is a clergyman and Mr. Allen says he's sure she would have preferred him to be a brigand - the way he says this is so funny. In fact I loved all the comedy provided by Mr and Mrs Allen.

Love the country walk scene - you can see how Henry is drawn by Cathy's innocence and lack of pretense.

I thought the kiss was hilariously brilliant, I also really liked her dream scenes as they were so funny, particularly the bath one

When Henry smirked as Catherine says about Thorpe 'He's been nice to me.'

'Try not to kill my dogs'

When was that? I didn't notice, oh well it's an excuse to watch it again.

Oh the kiss most DEFINITELY! Here's one that hasn't been mentioned - the 2nd dance when Henry's talking to Catherine about John Thorpe and she says "He's always been nice to me" or something like that, the look on Henry's face, and then when he goes "Does it occur to you that I'm not the best one to talk to about this?"

And when he talks to her about the girl he must marry after going to Woodston.

Of course the mud wiping scene.

FABULOUS adaptation of a WONDERFUL WONDERFUL book

Fiftrix - your thread has been sabotaged!

Favourite scene is probably the mud wiping one - very sensual.

reply

Thank you Millie. I like the way he lifts her off the horse and kind of holds her in the air for a few seconds as if he wants to prolong the time he's got her in his arms. Ahh bless.

So am I right in thinking you liked this but didn't really like Persuasion?

reply

I loved the mud wiping scene (Has to be the best)

Loved the part when they are teasing each other.."maybe i dont keep a diary"

When hes declaring his love for her

i love it all its so beautifully done

Lois:"Are there any more at home like you?"
Clark:"Not really no"
Lois:"didn't think so"

It's so hard to pick a favorite scene

1) Top of the list The kissing scene, they were so adorable!
2) The mud-wiping scene, the way they looked at each other gave me the shivers. Go away Eleanor!
3) I know it's a little obscure but I loved the way Henry looks at Catherine's sibs as they are sitting behind him at her house. He looked as if he wished they would go away. I also loved it when her sister pointed out that you could see the Allen's place from the window. Hilarious
4) All the teasing scenes. Like at the dance, when they are walking together, and when she arrives at Northanger Abbey and he starts teasing her about ghosts. Really loved that scene

5) Almost forgot her dream sequences. Just hilarious. Especially liked the sword fight between Thorpe and Tilney, really great.

Sorry about your thread

I totally forgot two really funny scenes.
1) Where Catherine meets Henry's sister. The look on her face when she thinks Eleanor is his wife or something is priceless.
2) The scene where Catherine meets Henry's brother Capt. Tilney and shoots him that nasty look when he says "Charmed".
Felicity makes some of the cutest faces. She's just adorable.

I absolutely agree with you .. she is so funny .. "He understands Muslin ever so well!" priceless.. and my favorite quote from Mr.Allen "Shops must be visited, money must be spent" !!! What a great line.

I love the kiss.. it's so very romantic and enthusiastic.
These actors just have such wonderful chemistry ... and ofcorse JJ.Fields is the most charasmatic man alive. http://youtube.com/watch?v=-xLCPgnpVuc&feature=PlayList&p=EAC6F5BDFA3082C1&index=1 I advice you to see this.. JJ is soooo cute in it.

Love the dream scenes, the mud wiping scene is just delicious and all the flirting is so sweet.

So many cute scenes in this movie! Tough to choose.

Henry and Cathy's first meeting and dance - the games they play are so charming.

When Henry brings three desserts to the girls, and Catherine has left.

The bathtub scene - makes me laugh every time!

The ride to Woodston and Henry cleaning up Catherine

Henry discovers Catherine in his mother's room.

"Will you marry me, Catherine?"
"Yes - yes, I will! Yes..."
(Smooch - v. cute!)

-Mud spot removing ... the way he holds his face in her hands .... swoon!-

This was definitely my favorite scene and IMO, the most romantic one. :)

My favorite scene is when Catherine comes home and her younger siblings run to meet her so happy that she has returned. They are the sweetest children and Catherine seems glad to be home after traveling so far at night, SHE IS STILL stunned from the Generals horrid treatment of her banishing her from Northanger Abby

reply

Since it wasn't mentioned, the scene when Henry is heating something in the fireplace and he shyly looks over at Cathy and then asks her if she wants to visit his home. You could tell he was absolutely smitten with her.

Of course, the mud... my fav.

I'm the only person I know who didn't like the kiss. It was too dorky. Henry was 26 and he should know how to kiss a girl! I would have loved more smokin-hot! Sort of a slow coming together and touching of lips and then more vigorous kissing. Whew! I'm making myself blush!!!

reply

oh, the whole scene where Henry is explaining to Catherine that he has fallen out with his father. He gets so heated and flustered that he mispeaks, but doesn't skip a beat and keeps on going. And the music doesn't help with the anticipation! And you know she knows what he's trying to eventually get to saying! And then everything just gets to a boiling point with "will you marry me"!!!!

It was one of the best movie climaxes ever...

I think JJ Field was a perfect Henry. In many of the scenes, it's his expressions alone that tell what is going on his head. I love the scene where the General tells Catherine to ride with Henry in the one horse carriage thing, and he seems to think it's an odd request yet still manages to look comfortingly at Catherine to assure her it's something he wants too!

I also love the scene when Henry thinks Catherine had not wanted to go for a walk with him and his sister, and then his face lights up when Catherine explains about the misunderstanding. Only someone as naive as Catherine would be so open and honest in their apology and explanation - you can see this touches him since he believes her and starts teasing her again.

I love this book and I love this adaptation.

Oh God! This Parachute is a Knapsack!!! (Chandler Bing)

reply

I can't stand this adaptation -- Catherine's fantasies are far too "racy" for a girl like her. Also, I can't stand that Davies implies that Isabella sleeps with Captain Tilney. And, last but not least, the fact that Davies changes the novel Catherine reads from "Udolpho" to "The Monk" is just not right. Udolpho's plot mirrors that of NA. The Monk was recommended by John Thorpe, and is definitely not a book a girl like Catherine would have read.

reply

I admit that they have 'modernized' it a bit, bit the flirty Henry Tilney is so cute I can almost forgive them anything!

Oh God! This Parachute is a Knapsack!!! (Chandler Bing)

reply

I still can't do it. Henry is great, but NA is Catherine's story, and if they toy with her, it's ruined for me.
