The humor of this movie is SO Will Ferrell. I think Ferrell would have been perfect to play Dewey Cox. Nothing against John C. Reilly, but I like Reilly better as a supporting actor than as a lead actor.
I liked this movie, but I think I would have loved it with Will Ferrel playing Dewey. Anyone else feel this way?
OMG .. thank God WF didn't star in this movie .. he would have ruined it .. Only a few actors could pull this off .. and Riley is one of them .. WF just doesn't have the range ... he's a one trick pony .. plays everything about the same way .. no range whatsoever .. I just saw " Elf " today for the first time .. and it is the last time .

I agree with the others. I'm a WF fan, but he tends towards over-the-top comedy, which can wear on one's nerves after a while. JCR is far more nuanced, subtle, and more believable as a singer, as opposed to someone who can sing. His acting range is far wider than WF's. He definitely is a hugely underrated actor.
