To people saying its a bad movie

Maybe its because ive never been a comic book fan or seen Sin City but what is peoples problem with this movie, I mean its not that bad. The visuals are stunning, the acting is good, music is ok and I thought it was quite funny in places. I'm not saying its the greatest movie ever made but the way some people are talking you would swear they tried to make it bad. Just enjoy it, there are certainly worse ways to spend 90 minutes

Wake up Mr. Freeman... wake up and smell the ashes

Perhaps when you complete Elementary School you will be able to form an original thought and put it in a sentence for us. Anything you have to say in any post is dismissed as rubbish, because your signature shows you to be a complete moron. So you're the one not actually contributing anything...to society!

Many of the imdb users are not native English speakers. Myself included. I am a Bulgarian and I have learned English mostly from the American movies. You can't expect someone like me to know English perfectly.

As for the movie... I don't know. It was some kind of funny. I remember I enjoyed it quite a lot. BUT... Stunning visuals? Where? If we hadn't seen the same thing done about a thousand times better in 'Sin City' the visuals would pass as stunning, I guess, but since we have... Great acting? Well, sorry, you have probably seen another movie. Humor? As funny as tickling with a brick most of the time. And so on... I just like idiotic movies like this one and that's why I enjoyed it.

All I can say is wow!!! You wrote a short essay on grammar and spelling and still managed to have a few errors yourself. It looks like I get to ignore what you said because you don't know how to speak or write. It looks like there is one less holier-than-thou person to which I need pay attention.

-"others users"
-starting a sentence with "and"
-I'm not sure about this one but if you put a person's name shouldn't they start with capital letters? ie. E.E. Cummings.

For the love of God you're retarded.

reply

Starting a sentence with ''and'' is perfectly fine, actually.

Your ignorance is plain astonishing. e e cummings (yes no caps) deliberately wrote his name like that and that is how it is always written.

For someone with a level of education which evidently doesn't break grade school, you are hardly in a position to call others retarded.

reply

I agree with your comments pertaining to grammar, spelling and punctuation. And it doesn't matter that "this is the net", as someone had stated. There is NO excuse for an educated adult to use anything but proper English. Sure, it's "fun" and "cool" to knowingly spell badly, but I don't care. And please don't take it wrong, but... the word you're thinking of is "ellipsis", not "elliptical".

If those with the English skills you are referring to are under the age of 50, which, I suspect, they are, they represent the future of our country. God help us all.

I, like, to, use, commas, too!

I'm watching it now and keep falling asleep on it. I used to like comics but more than i liked comics i like good things. So far it's pretty crappy. But I'll watch it to the end and give it a chance. Keep rewinding.

I usually tend to persuade myself to like a movie more than to hate it. That means instead of finding all the plot holes and comment on the bad scripts, I tend to look for the 'good' in any movie I watch.

But this movie is the worst movie I've ever seen in my whole life. I can't find anything good at all in this.

reply

I have to say I tried sooooo hard to like this movie. I loved the SPirit comics, loved most everything Frank Miller has ever written as The Dark Knight (Number 1 only- two was average) Sin City (Again the first one as the others are good not Great)and most everything else he writes.

But this movie was so bad that it actually came close to crossing the circle and became good again. It was so silly that it was actaully entertaining.

This is not say it was good, because it wasn't. The visuals were cool (sure we've seen them before)and the hotties were well HOT- SJH and EVE MENDES (WOW GREAT NUDE SCENE!!!) and Sam Jackson yelling and acting crazy...again great stuff.

So IMHO, The movie blows, but is still very entertaining (but so are car wrecks), everyone is cool (except for the grammar police dude, he/she blows), and I'm out...

These are my thoughts, they are free, but at least they are my own.

reply

Actually this is what the movie was aiming to be. It was purposefuly trying to be as over the top as possible.

That is not dead which can eternal lie and with strange aeons even death may die

reply

If it was trying to be over the top, then it needs to learn from "Tropic thunder".
This movie was absolute *beep* Action, visuals and some tits don't make it ok for a movie to be so bad, not for me. Someone who doesn't care much about substance probably can extract some pleasure, there's always that one guy.

reply

If THIS is the worst movie you've seen in your whole life, then I'm sorry, but you really need to see more movies.

Yeah, The Spirit was not very good (just saw it for the first time, never read the comics). However, it was far from the worse movie I've seen. Haha, try watching Laserblast (1978), it's on Mystery Science Theater 3000, you'd have to be very, very brave to watch it without their entertaining commentary.

reply

This movie sucked. However some good CGI and Sam Jackson elivate it to an OK Saturday afternoon time-waster. Sam Jackson has elevated many bad movies that way.

Like "Snakes on a Plane" or "Deep Blue Sea"

"A shark ATE ME! A *beep* SHARK ATE ME!" - Dave Chappelle as Sam Jackson.

this movie sucked ass. the only saving grace was eva's ass and scarlett's cleavage. i'm glad i only paid a dollar to rent it.

reply

I'm glad someone finally mentioned Eva's ass; I was beginning to think no one else noticed it.
On the film however was it really that bad? After all it is based on a comic strip so what are people expecting, William Shakespeare? Just enjoy it for what it is eh?

There's worse ways to spend 90 minutes? Yeah, okay having my nuts cut off and shoved down my throat would PROBABLY be worse than watching this again.

reply

They did "try to make it bad" in the sense that they tried to make it campy. And there is absolutely nothing in the universe of cinema worse -- as this film attests -- than bad camp.

Did I not love him, Cooch? MY OWN FLESH I DIDN'T LOVE BETTER!!! But he had to say 'Nooooooooo'

reply

You're right, Tunaman09. I enjoyed the movie; it was comical and hilarious, and the visuals were indeed stunning. Taking in every movie ever made in a ratio of good to bad, The Spirit would probably come in at about a 6 or 6.5. That's what I think, anyway.

I really like movies of this genre . . . but I HATED this one. My gods it was SO boring! Endless meaningless dialogue that just didn't go anywhere and a bunch of characters I didn't give a toss about. I kept switching back and forth between channels in the hope that it was getting better as the movie went on, but oh no, it got worse! Good thing I was watching this on TV and hadn't wasted my valuble $6.50 at the cinema. Mind you, if I had, I would've demanded my money back.

reply

Wow...this movie is getting a lote of HATE, mostly for being silly. But be honest, isnt the big brother (Sin City) that everybody is raving about not just as silly?

My gf actually prefers this one because it aint as gross as Sin City (especially the yellow dude freaks her out), not as long as Sin City but still something similar.

I personally enjoyed The Spirit for what it is, a silly comic book adaptation with great visuals, flawed storyline and (at best) ok acting. Loved Jackson as the baddy, so over the top it was freakin hilarious :D

Ps. Grammar police -> I ghave no greencard since im not in the US, dont kill me! ;)

This was a bad movie. The scene in which he Spirit is strapped to a dentist chair seemed to last for eternity. It did have a lot of good eye candy though!
