Freaking Awesome! Trolls go home.

I am so sick to death of watching a movie, loving the hell out of it, and when I come to IMDB afterwards, all I see are dozens of lame-ass trolls and haters ragging the hell out of it. Seriously, I'm getting to the point where I just don't feel like coming here anymore, because anyone who likes a film either doesn't bother to post, or they've been scared-off by the hate-filled herd of holier-than-thou, nothings-good-enough-for-me wannabe movie critics.

Priest nailed it on every level for me, and I absolutely loved it. Looking forward to the DVD/Blu-Ray (especially for any extras that I'm hoping will be present), and really hope this is the beginning of a film franchise.

And don't give me that garbage about some of it not being realistic. Of course there are going to be elements that are fantastical and don't follow real-world physics, it's a freakin' fantasy/adventure movie. You don't see people saying, "Superman sucked. People can't fly! Sheesh!" I mean, really, the girl threw rocks into the air so he could step on them and gain elevation during a leap! It was hilariously unreal, but fit right into the mystique of the story and the mythos of the Priests. The whole thing was a total blast.

I especially loved how they wrote it like an old, classic spaghetti western, and then dressed it in an apocalyptic horror/scifi setting. I loved all the classic cliches they somehow managed to use and make them seem fresh again. I loved the too-rare-these-days happy ending, and was ecstatic over the whole "Empire Strikes Back" homage (-ish) end segment that leaves things wide-open for a sequel.

So all I can say is, if you didn't like it, fair enough, but man, it must suck to be you, cuz this movie was a lot of fun and you're totally missing out.

Edited: Fixed typo.

If you can't respect an opinion and call people retarded for having one different than yours (Even if it means liking something you don't (Ex. This movie)), then you are retarded.

Watch movies, form an opinion, and stay off the message boards if you're too immature to understand the concept. Movies are subjective, not objective. Just like music, paintings, or any other form of art, your experience will differ.

Personally, I didn't like this movie very much.

So you decide to reply to a post that had details and explained examples with...basically a troll post.

Congratulations, you literally just proved the OP's point of trolls on this board.

reply

Ignorance is bliss.

You must be a very happy person, then.

Troll = someone disagreeing with your opinion?

Nope. Disagreeing is fine. A troll is someone that, amongst other things, goes out of their way to intentionally "misinterpret" what someone else means or says, just for the sake of starting a petty argument.

The-Kurgan,

Thanks for your great review. I agree with you. I enjoy the movie, too. It concentrates more on stunning action sequences and spectacular visual effects than dialogue and character development. Great cast, especially Cam Gigandet and Maggie Q.

It is a shame that it performs poorly in the US. Hopefully it keeps on performing very well overseas, so we can see a sequel.

reply

The-Kurgan, dont worry i agree with you also. i liked the movie a lot. Paul Bettany is one of my favorite actors, and i will watch him in anything, but i liked Karl Urban and Maggie Q also. dont pay attention to what others say. sure it's not original, but very entertaining and that's what movies are for!
I wish people will stop thinking that every movie has to be a Bergman or Fellini.

reply

I also agree with both of you, the only point I dissagree with irisezer is about the originalty of the movie, take a look at most of the offerings that hollywood tries to pass as original, its all remakes or sequels or retellings of other movies with new titles, at least priest had some originalty to it and a great cast, all I hope is that they make a seconed one and at least as good as first, and with some thought put in to it, rather than just throw it together like they do with most sequels now.
There have been some graet movies that deserve a sequel and have not got one, and there have been a load of so so movies that have been ok, but got a sequel
made that should never have happened and in some cases made the first one look bad as well, but thats in my own opinion others may and will see it different to me and thats fair. as everyone has the right to their own opinion.

thank for letting me have a rant lol :-)

I agree. Awesome movie, glad to see a NEW idea finally, better than a Smurfs movie or *another* transformers movie.

Hollywood has run out of ideas, this movie was refreshing.

WTF? This movie was based on a corean comic book by Ming-Woo Hyung, and it didn't really adapt it, it just took the title and the look and it became a cheap remake of "The Searchers" instead.

And about it being refreshing... compared to what? The characters were flat and the dialogues were as predictable as the action sequences themselves, which were shot and choreographed exactly like in a bajillion other action/ sci-fi movies.

reply

"It concentrates more on stunning action sequences and spectacular visual effects than dialogue and character development."

That's just another way of saying the writing was crap. A form of writing used by salesmen trying to sell a shoddy product.

Not to mention, the action sequences were not stunning -- they were typical. The visual effects were not spectacular -- they were typical.

I've had more fun watching others play video games.

Since I have never read or even heard about the original manga/comic before seeing this movie, I'm not going to bitch about that. What killed the movie for me was it's insane "cliché-ness" so to say, it's absolutely devoid of any originality, you know from the beginning how it's going to play out and end, everything we see in terms of action, effects, combat, story, etc has already been done (and better), even "powerful" moments like when you find out that the girl is his daughter just causes a "meh..." reaction.

I'll probably forget everything that happened in this flick a couple of days from now... and that's how I know that it was a disappointing movie.

And just to be fair; I have not seen anyone disliking the movie because it was "unrealistic". That's just you making stuff up. Or atleast I hope so.

Nope, I was actually quoting other posts that I'd read shortly before writing mine.

I enjoyed the movie as well. I think that the film brought some fresh ideas to the mythology surrounding vampires. It was a nice change from obnoxiously beautiful vampires that sparkle like like a kaleidoscope. The religious angle was obviously going to be present because the film is about a warrior priest. I understand people will not like the movie because no movie is unilaterally like by all. But if you do not like a movie, please simply state why and move on. Resorting to referring to someone as a retard is just obscene and uncalled for. Grow up and leave comments like that to the playground.
I hope that a sequel is made because I am dying to see where they can take this story line.

nothings-good-enough-for-me wannabe movie critics "FYL"
I AGREEEEEEE HALLELUIAH
critics are the worst noobs of all
n on IMDb it seems every other Joe is trying to become a critic

reply

Well I liked it !

reply

There's actually people out there who really liked this movie?!
Wow.... I guess there are people out there who are VERY easily entertained.

This movie was a dime a dozen cliche filled cash grab. It really looks like Bettany is becoming the next Nicholas Cage. I hope that's not true, because he seems to have some potential but he has got to get a new agent. Davinci Code (good), Legion (meh), Priest (meh).... How about let's see another Bettany movie that has nothing to do with religion. That'd be fun to watch.

I agree with the earlier poster who said that they'd forget most of the movie in a couple days. I feel the same way. This was just your average B rated action movie and it's bashing by the critics is completely justified.

Hollywood, GIVE US SOMETHING NEW!!

You people need to see some more movies if you enjoyed this one

And you need to see more movies to understand that this movie is not the worst movie ever! :)

I also liked it. Vampire killing is always fun to watch.

@canad-ian

My dear Sir, saying:

"This movie was a dime a dozen cliche filled cash grab."

and then in the same line:

"Davinci Code (good)"

you loose all credibility even as an armchair reviewer.

The Priest was indeed a cliche ridden drivel, it surely had some entertaining moments, but overall it was Salvation (visuals) + I Am Legend (creatures) + some other copied material. The first half wasn't that bad so I think 6/10 for me.

"Hollywood, GIVE US SOMETHING NEW!! "

um, this was new. Very new. Vampires that are like wild beasts instead of moody teenagers? Check. Church runs the world? Check. Vampire vs Human war since the beginning of time? Check

Vampires that are like wild beasts instead of moody teenagers?

- That is not new...quitee the contrary. There were vampire movies long before Twilight.

Church runs the world?

- Any movie set in the medieval times?

Vampire vs Human War since the beginning of time?

- Heard of Underworld?

So what new things did Priest brings to the table? They changed the backdrop of Underworld only with Humans being the vampires enemy, instead of werewolves. The rest is used cliches and boring action sequences. What a creative movie!

i agree great movie.

for sure among the best movies that have vampires as theme.

the fact that vampires are different here isnt negative at all.

diversity is a good thing - it would be boring as hell if all movies had sparkling vampires^^

reply

If you liked this movie, then you're set entertainment wise until you reach your 20's and grow tired of the same old crap over and over again in every single hollywood movie. That is if you like movies and watch many.

There was nothing original here, not the story, not the CGI, not the characters, not the stupid hong kong style action with the jumping and the wires and so on.

Boring.

reply

Maybe I'll see it on cable and decide I like it after all, but for me, on the big screen, it tanked. Mostly for the plot holes.

As for people saying it wasn't realistic, I gotta wonder what world they're growing up in. So ... how do real vampires move?

I did like Karl Urban and Cam. Paul Bettany - might as well have re-filmed Legion in front of a blue screen.

His last good film? A Knights Tale.

Get over it

I loved it. Sure, it wasn't realistic or thought-provoking, but that's not why you go see a movie like this! It was entertaining. Awesome actors and characters, cool action and a nice, straightforward plot that didn't try too much.

I thought it was very entertaining and genuinely hope for a sequel. And that sequel would undoubtedly be better (esp. when it comes to character development and depth).

Absolutely agree with OP.

reply

Just saw it at a cheap theater. It was pretty decent. Anyone complaining about story or character depth is just stupid. Look at the type of movie this is... Do you go to dramas then complain, "Where was all the killing and shooting?"

reply

i agree that the movie was pretty good the biggest problem with it (and the reason that alot of people on theese boards hated it) is that it has NOTHING to do with the book its supposed to be based on completely different time period the book has nothins to do with vampires and they don't even use the name ivan issacs the name of the priest character in the book there is no order of priests in the book the main focus of the the book is about a guy possesed by a devil trying to kill a worse devil all while shooting zombies and runing from the law in the turn of the century west so while the priest movie was an alright movie in the same general genre as things like ultraviolent nightwatch and a few others a movie that was acctually based on the manga were it gets its name would have been a far more origanal idea

reply

I loved it, I normally like fantasy, action and horror flicks. I loved how original the vampires were ( I hate the sparkly vamp/fairies give me a vampire with teeth and balls any day). I liked the look of the world (which the war lead to) and the bikes. Granted there wasn't a big plot or a lot of dialog but sometimes they can weigh films and stuff down. It was a good intoduction into 'their world' and I hope for another at least (hopefully with Black Hat).

I've never read the book but would love to find a copy.

As for it being boring and cliche, all of hollywood is cliche, boring? I can't see how but well that's your opinion :D

Glad to see a Vampire movie with Vampires that go bump in the night (like they used to).
