You guys are crying over a stupid dog?

I really hate insensitive comments like that. Why can't we care about both humans and animals?

The scene where Marley dies hits close to home for so many people who have lost a pet. When my cat died, I was a complete mess. He was only 8 years old and I had him since he was a 3 month old kitten. My parents and I considered him apart of the family, so of course it hurt. Heck even my dad, who rarely ever cries, started sobbing when he passed away.

That's not to say that we don't care about humans or value animals above humans though, before anyone accuses me of doing that. I just don't understand why the mere thought of caring about animals is considered so loony or ridiculous. Not all of us animal lovers are like PETA or approve of their antics. :(

You know, it is possible to care about people AND animals. Don't be such a judgmental douche.

People who make these type of claims about animals tend to do *beep* at all about humans as well.

*beep* dog lovers. They put their dogs above their own children. That's why these kids are so *beep* up nowadays.

There are more tactful ways to point out some of the incongruities of valuing and spending money on animals while ignoring the plight of other humans. Intellectually I have problems with it, but responsible pet ownership offers emotional gratification that simple charity doesn't.
Perhaps we should teach our culture to put humanity above pet ownership, but we haven't evolved that way it seems.
