Why didn’t Instellar’s grandkids give a flying hoot? (Spoilers)

When Int returns to see old Murph on her deathbed, the room is filled with her kids and grandkids. Those are his kin too, but they just glaze at him like he’s some nobody hospital shmoe and not their long lost famous grandpa.

They don’t know him . Just being a blood relation isn’t a big deal

That shouldn't matter. He helped save humanity!!
If I came into contact with the person who came back from a mission they started 124(?) years ago to help save humanity, and just happens to be my close relative, I'd lose my shit!
I really think they should have included a scene(s) where he's interacting with them with love and tears in his eyes.

yeah she was everything: beat the equasion, gave life to all those people, saved humanity, over their whole life time of LIFE time.... he was never around EVER except for 30 seconds there bedside, and she was almost on her death bed after a long long life with all that close family.

Sure, he was very important, but not in this context. He was a side note to their life long lives. meanwhile to himself, it was only like what a year of his time?

reply

He was important in every context. Without him, Murph wouldn't have been able to save humanity. I know that the world didn't believe her when she said that he helped her and that he was her 'ghost', etc, but he was one of the people who went on the mission to save humanity and actually came back. That, combined with the fact that that person is their relative, yeah, I think there should have been some excitement and recognition!

Oh I could not agree more.

I was attempting to put into perspective MY take on why HE wasn't the biggest deal ever... because he was non-existant for like 60-70 years while everyone was growing or living. He felt like a side player after being gone all that time. I don't know. just some thoughts

Fair enough. I get what you're saying, but I honestly believe he should have been a much bigger deal than portrayed. It just doesn't seem authentic to me, otherwise 🤷🏻‍♀️
