This movie killed my optimism for the future

When I was a kid, even until I was a young adult; I was fascinated by the idea of a futuristic world. As a kid, I absolutely loved the futuristic version of 2015 Hill Valley from Back To The Future, Part II with its flying cars and hoverboards. Even Futurama being a satire of futuristic stuff shown in 60s TV shows like The Jetsons and Star Trek is why it's one of my favorite animated shows of all time. However, once I saw Interstellar, I was no longer happy for our future. If anything, Demolition Man or Idiocracy should've been what ruined my hope the future of humanity, but it didn't. It was this film right here. I still think it's a great film, but I see it as a "Jaws" effect where you now have a phobia for something, because you saw that film. I'm actually afraid to go on a airplane because of the first Final Destination film and what happens within the first 10 minutes. It's kinda like what Jaws did to people who don't want to swim in the ocean, anymore. The movie's idea that Earth is dying, 7 or 8 decades from now is way more grim than the idea of our society getting pussifed by the PC and woke crowd or everyone becoming dumber and their IQs rapidly dropping below 60. Like leaving behind Earth at least works for movies like WALL-E, so why doesn't it work here?

It shouldn't depress you. The film is in itself the perfect example of Murphy's Law. There's millions of ways to die at any given moment. I wouldn't sweat over it and simply hope it's instant if it happens.

Same for any celestial body, but way more complicated. In the film, Earth is becoming unlivable for humans, but another lifeform is taking over. The Earth isn't dieing, life goes on. A planet can't die, but CAN become sterile of all life. Interstellar is Science Fiction, not Science Fact.

If you ask me, the best solution would've probably been genetic engineering humans to be more compatible with the new atmosphere.

I feel like we would simply make physiological modifications to our bodies.

Ignore the climate doom-mongers, it’s a grift as old as the hills.

With Trump in power, and the world generally moving to the right, the future is looking very positive.

reply

I proudly admit I'm a Trump supporter.

With the Clown Emperor in charge, positive you say ? The Earth becoming the same as the Moclan homeworld ( The Orville 2017), that's positive ? So I guess you're okay with all animals getting killed off and all bodies of water poisoned ?
