Anybody else think that Mike and Fi should have actually died together

i was convinced that james took them in the blast, it would have been a perfect creative ending. both mike and fi have been through so much and they die together side by side, it would have been a much better ending in my opinion. i still liked the ending, but i just feel that mike and fi dying together in the explosion would have been perfect. does anybody else agree or am i the only one?

reply

I don't agree.

(Cheating on NCIS with Person of Interest :) )

reply

I wouldn't have been able to handle that.

reply

Don't agree at all. If that happened, it would make it very hard for me to watch the series again at all, knowing the eventual outcome.

"Those who flaunt their power disappear when the truly powerful appear."

reply

No....I don't agree either! I think they ended it perfectly.....and typically for Michael and Fi....they ALWAYS got out alive!!

reply

When it looked like they had died, I was glad I hadn't bought any of the DVD's and decided I wasn't going to watch any re-runs. Losing 3 characters would have been too much!

reply

Come on, people watched Titanic, Ghandi, and any number of lesser movies where you know going in the main man is doomed.

It would have been preferable to see them die than see them escape in yet another implausible twist of fate... Honestly how many people think that anyone can actually outrun explosions... It really stretched the believably beyond the norm.

reply

If the bad guys were just average shots, they would all have been dead the first season. What's one more explosion?

reply

This is escapist action. Just like the James Bond movies and the Bourne Series. Do you think that realistically Bond and Bourne could survive improbable situation after improbable situation? The reason those 2 action series of films are so popular is because they have charismatic heroes that survive tight spot after tight spot. If you wanted absolute realism than Burn Notice was not the series for you.

reply

Its much different with tv shows than movies. People have a more devoted interest in the characters than in a movie. If it fits the theme of the show then it works like game of thrones or the walking dead. Im not sure it would fit here. My only complaint was them running out was a little cheesy. I would of much preferred if you didnt see how they got it

reply

Michael & Fi outrunning the explosion isn't as impossible as everyone assumes. The charges were set on the first floor and didn't happen simultaneously. There would be a progression of detonations, a chain reaction. Even if both floors were rigged, and I only remember seeing charges on the first floor, there would still be a delay before the blasts went off on the upper floors. Those fire balls would be slowed down when moving from large open spaces to tight narrow spaces like hallways. And if the charges were actually only set on the first floor as I remember, then it would take even longer for the blasts to reach the upper floors. Firefighters sometimes save people in the upper parts of buildings when the explosion starts below. It's why those heroic fire fighters entered the Twin Towers on 9-11. They were hoping to save people away from the explosions' origins.

reply

I do not agree.
Why you think killing the two out of three main reason I watch the show for 7 seasons would not make it more edgy just disappointing.
After everything they've been through together they deserve a life together after spy game.

reply

Please tell me you are not a glass half empty person...

reply

if they would have died it would have been an sad ending for Charlie.

reply

They didn't have the balls to do a real ending. Hollywood pap for the masses.

Michael didn't deserve to survive the blast after he betrayed and shot Sonia in the back. It would've been fitting if they all died together. I think a spinoff of Sam and Jesse solving cases of the week while trying to parent Charlie would have a lot of potential!

reply

I think the writers shouldn't have Michael shoot Sonya 'IN THE BACK' - that's so cowardly. Just punch her out and render her unconscious would have been enough - so that she can go and live a normal life after it all - perhaps a shot of her lying on a beach in South America somewhere (she told Michael that's she's only ever traveled for work - never for pleasure) would have been good.

Sonya was great for this season - seriously, I was getting bored of Fiona...

reply

Sonya had her gun aimed at Fi and her finger on the trigger, punching her would have caused her to squeeze it out of reflex. I do think he could have shot her in the leg or something, though I don't see her going on to a "normal" life as she said several time their work WAS her life and would always come first. So she would live to keep James' work going, instead of having it end with their deaths.

reply

Shooting Fee in the leg is not a bad outcome...

Her work was her life - not after Mike becomes the leader and dismantles the whole network (or hands it over to the CIA), giving Sonya a 2nd chance of living life without risk.

People do get older and do change their views on the world...
just look at Myley Cyrus... :)

reply

He didn't "cowardly" shoot her in the back. It's not like she was running away & he shot her in the back. When Sonia turned to shoot Fi, it was a split second decision. He didn't have time to think where he was going to shoot her. He just reacted. It was either Fi or Sonia and he made his choice.

reply

He shot Sonia because she was going to shoot Fi. Also, to have her live would mean that James' work would continue as long as she was alive. Remember Michael didn't shoot an unarmed Sonia...she was pointing her gun directly at Fi! Also, I couldn't take it if Michael & Fi died together. It was too emotional just to have his mom die. I can't stop crying about that.

reply

"I think a spinoff of Sam and Jesse solving cases of the week while trying to parent Charlie would have a lot of potential!"

They could call it "Two and Half Spies".

reply

Lol, don't forget the fact now that they can outrun exploding buildings because "spies don't accept their fate."

reply

What about that ridiculous scene when Michael climbed onto the I.T. guy's Merc's bonnet??? That was farcical. I mean, if someone had tried to blow my tyres, and shot at me with a few rounds of shot gun... I'd still drive slowly and let a 4x4 drive along side me, slowly enough for a passenger to get out of their car and climb onto mine... very poor writing...

reply

Given the tires and body of the car were bullet proof, I'm guessing the guy sacrificed speed for armor and could only go so fast. Not to mention, an SUV with a V-8 engine can go pretty damn fast. Wasn't poor writing.

reply

I'm sure with all the money he had, he would have made sure that his Merc was a SUPER AGM or something - that would still be able to speed away if it came under attack...

Anyhow, what about controlling one's speed - slowing down, speeding up - so that Mike can simply just belly flop over?

reply

Come on, after all, it's a feel good TV show - not a serious Block-buster Movie.

reply

Thank you WhiskeySam. Nice to know someone has some sense here.

Hey, why didn't they have Madeline jump out the window after she set off the explosive? She is pretty spry for a 90 year old.

reply

NO!! I broke out into a cold sweat for a few minutes when I thought that they may have actually died.

They deserved a happy ending.

reply

Are you suffering from depression? Burn Notice was never intended to be a dark, overly-dramatic show, it was a witty comedy/action series with just enough drama. The ending was a perfect fit and tied a neat bow over what was a great TV series.

reply

Yes, I'm depressed they went with predictable, trite, and cliched.

reply

Predictability isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially when dealing with a TV series of this nature. I am rather pleased with the way it ended, but would have been just as content had the writers chosen to go another direction. Viewers of television shows should never be allowed to dictate the ending or any part of a plot. Giving any credence to the input of emotional basket cases with regards to the creative direction of a series will guarantee its failure.

reply

If you want a tragic Shakespearean ending, wait for the Breaking Bad ending a few weeks. USA is too lighthearted for that.

reply

A perfect fit would have been an escape using some last trick instead of just running. Preferably something the evil mastermind has not had in mind - like his safety measures actually sparing one part of the building from the explosion or whatever. Just running was kind of lame.

Michael being the narrator it was impossible that he could die.
