I was thinking they were stored consciousnesses that hari somehow got in the prime radiant and thus in the vault? Everyone on terminus?
shareSo just stored consciousnesses ... that would kinda make sense. But why? They are unimportant?
And terminus doesn't seem to have such a big population, surely not as many as we see there ...
Reminded me of the ending of Close Encounters of the 3rd kind. When all the abductees walked out of the UFO.
shareThey are the people of Terminus, there must be thousands of people on that planet after 100 years of open borders. No indications of how many settlements there were on the planet.
Seems like the industrial might of the foundation is in another solar system? They never showed the dock yards for ship construction, or where they mine materials (i assume both are done in zero G near an asteroid belt). All we seen was a couple dozen people at work benches in a tiny factory, making the one item that would enrage the empire.
deus ex machina - harry seldon can pull technological magic out of his ass to save the day? - i didnt like that ending, makes the foundation way too OP.
Those are the people of Terminus, and yes it is 138 or so years after Foundation began there, and we see a wide view of the city early in the season, there were plenty of people there, and Hari Seldon's Vault saved them from the total destruction of the planet.
shareTerminus develops a city. Tons of tents are shown as dwellings in one episode. Dozens of people work in the fake church building whisper spaceships (which probably wouldn't fit in that building, and no hangar is ever shown).
shareWell, I think that my problem is, actually problems are:
1. Are those real or just their conscience.
2. Still they are a LOT more that the perceived population.
3. Regardless of what they are HOW did he get them in the vault? (most were already dead) - magic?
Season 2 plays a lot of games with extra dimensionality, including the innovative re-embodiment of virtual Hari.
So we viewers are directed/suggested to assume that any number of "people" can fit into the Vault.
See my review for a short discussion of continuity tricks in Season 2:

It's not about how many people can fit in the vault. I it's "just" their conscience could be ... even infinte.
The problems are:
1. I didn't perceive on the planet as many as they were in the vault.
2. how did he get them in the vault?
