Not well written...
Some good ideas here and there but mostly it is boring and unoriginal...
Harris and Pace are excellent but they are not enough to counter bad writing.

I disagree with you. I think. I must admit that after I viewed each of the episodes, I went to one of those helpful recap sites. Perhaps, I would not have had to visit the recap sites if it were better written. I am not sure. But, I am loving it so far. The two episodes I have watched pack a lot in them.

I think they edited out quite a lot to fasten the pace of the story and that has made the writing seem a bit hit and miss?
Unlike most people who have commented that the show is too slow, I actually think it moved too fast and I wish they would have slowed down a bit and delved a bit deeper into some of the universes set-up and backstory. I would have loved to see more about the Star Bridge and Stalk and the Spacers who can fold space etc. I also would have loved to see them put together the ‘campaign’ for the journey to Terminus and how the common people who believed in Dr Seldon’s prophecy, flocked like cult members to his cause. Surely that would have taken quite a while to come together? I mean, Hari mentions he was involved in the selection process of every person chosen to be on board and yet the way it’s edited in the show, it looks they’ve already been banished and are in deep space only a few days after the terrorist bombings.
I appreciate it’s a huge amount of world building they have to do, especially for those of us who have not read the books but I think it has been clumsily done.
I did listen to the official podcast on Apple after I had watched the first 2 episodes and the Show-Runner is the guest and he does help explain a few things that helped me understand the universe a bit better so perhaps you might enjoy it too @ ‘edge’?
I’ve watched the first 2 episodes twice now and on the whole I am enjoying it.
The visuals are incredible and Lee Pace is in his element in this role.
I am particularly enjoying the dynamic between the 3 Emperors; what a genius display of narcissism at it’s utmost. The way Emperor Day seems to nurture and care for the child Emperor Dawn when in reality, he’s merely bemused and indulging in watching himself become himself. It’s sublime!
I did not know about the Podcast. Though, I should have. There are Podcasts for everything. I like them.
Great analysis by the way.

Liberals ruin everything. The original trilogy is one of the best ever written. Not that Asimov was a great writer. He was a fairly competent writer, often times clunky, much better at non-fiction and maybe known best for his 'robot' stories/novels. To me the original Foundation trilogy was Asimov at his very best. But, of course, instead of being true to the original, liberals have to change characters to fit the modern audience. Which is why I would never waste my time watching it. I'd rather just read the trilogy again. What a shame. What a wasted opportunity. Just like Dune.
share"Liberals ruin everything"??
Yeah go read the trilogy again and stop boring people with our moronic political views that make no sense.
Maybe conservatives shouldn't suck at making art.
shareMaking art? Basically taking a story with white characters and making them black is not 'art'. That's called theft. And it's because they can't create their own stories and characters. Just like with The Wonder Years.
share*Yawn*
shareHave you ever noticed how many people of 'color' are leaving their countries? And pushing themselves into 'white' countries? Why is that? They failed in their own countries and they want to then bring that failure to white countries? How come so many Latin American countries can't get their shit together?
shareSave the white supremacist, far right bullshit or I'll have to ignore you.
shareHow come only white people are expected to constantly change their novels, stories, tv shows, movies? Should we make Bigger Thomas a white old man the next time they adapt Native Son into a movie? That is a novel, too, but can you imagine the outrage and cries of racism if that happened?
shareJust ignore him. Bigots aren't worth your time.
shareYes, we all noticed how many white people pushed their way into Africa and the Americas.
shareYes, we do and we know how many black ones are pushing their way into Americas right now. They have done such a great job fixing their own countries, they want to fix America. How selfless can you get!
We also know that black people have been practicing slavery for centuries and still do today. But no one holds them responsible. They also enslaved millions of white people over many centuries. Never hear about that, either. Funny how that works.
We also know that black people commit more than half the violent crimes in America. You would never know that otherwise. Right?
And we know that black people are responsible for more than 90% of black murders. But we are told the POLICE are the problem! Not black people.
And some states are having to lower their standards to graduate high school because black students can't seem to read and white and do basic math.
And we are now receiving thousands of them into America without any vetting at all.
What a joke.
Black people need to grow up. Period.
Actually just about everyone knows about white slavery; not everyone is as stupid as you are.
shareReally? Show me where black people are being asked to pay reparations to the descendants of white people who were enslaved by black people.
shareYou show us. That was not an argument I was making.
shareIt is an argument. Black people are as guilty of enslaving people as anyone. That is a fact. They do it today. How come they aren't held responsible?
shareNo one today in the USA is being held responsible for slavery. Unless you equate rhetoric to responsibility.
Wrong. Since there is a growing demand for reparations to black descendants of slavery. What planet do you live on exactly? Every black person is trained to believe they were once enslaved, to the point they start to believe it.
shareA demand is not the same as actually being held responsible. Saying every black person is trained to believe they were once enslaved is a very stupid thing to claim. For example, the black members of my family are not being trained to believe that crap.
By claiming that every black person thinks they were enslaved, you are insulting them just for having black skin. Speaking in absolutes is rarely ever the smart thing to do.
They are trained that way. Pandering to black people for their votes is what Dems do. You are just finding out about this?
shareHere you go again, saying that all blacks people are "something". I'm not training my family to be that way, neither is anyone else in my family. Are you training black people to believe that they were enslaved and need to be paid for it?
Pandering to anyone is what most politicians do.
You are wrong. The vast majority of black Americans are taught to think that way. That doesn't mean you are but it does mean you don't understand what is happening in America.
shareI was wondering how long it would take you to start backpedaling from "every black person" to "vast majority" or something else. I think you're clueless and confining yourself to a simple little piece of rhetoric that is in your comfort zone.
I think you need to get out of the basement you're hiding in and actually meet more people. It should do wonders for your outlook on life.
You are taking things too literally. You have to apply some common sense yourself. I can't do that for you.
shareI can only interpret what you type in this forum, not what you are actually thinking. If you can't put your actual thoughts into words, then we are not going to communicate well at all.
shareWhich characters in Foundation did Asmiov specify as belonging to any certain race? None as far as I know.
shareWe have another one who can see here...

I don't think the lack of talent has a political leaning.
It's unfortunate but it's the world we live in. Not being familiar with the source content, I can still feel there is plenty of interesting ideas in there. Obviously we must have le diversity but that's just how it is these days.
That's not even to say the actors are bad I think they do a good job but it's just obvious that there is a bunch of ideology shoved in.
There is just no point ... unless the point is to just meander around in the special effects which are nothing new and so cliche they are boring today. You have to have a plot, and there is really no plot here ... they are substituting making it long for giving it a plot.
shareHow can it be original if it's based upon a book? I think the writing and acting is good.
