7?? Garbage

I'm glad I didn't waste 10 bucks at the theater on this piece of nonsense. Thor, God of Thunder? More like an hour of some lame-ass shmoo walking around in flannel trying to "learn what it's all about" while he woos his earthly love interest. Choke. Seriously, this is what passes muster for an acceptable superhero movie? No wonder Spider-Man is so popular. Glad Joss fixed him for the Avengers at least.

reply

Yeah it's garbage, one of the worst comic book films I've ever seen. Then you have Natalie Portman wasting her time in it. Why is she in this crap? I dumbed myself down as much as I could and still couldn't eat the crap it was spewin'. The hammer looked plastic and so did all the armor, wtf. Am I supposed to think of wow, it must just be some brand new shiny other-wordly type of metal that just happens to look like plastic? The entire time I'm thinking man I should be watching chronicles of riddick right now, that movie did it right and rocked. I also think I almost had a seizure because of all the fake goofy elaborate colors. Man I hate this movie. Stupid comic book wannabe crap. I like the original star wars, I like the fanboys film, I like the punisher and batman 1 and the new batman films, firefly and serenity, battlestar galactica, brazil, bladerunner, iron man, robocop and spiderman 1, am I just not nerdy enough for this one?

Grade A rant, man. Spot on with your assessment, too. Bladerunner and Brazil are also 2 of my all-time favorite movies. And I don't think disliking Thor has anything to do with not being nerdy enough. I'm as nerdy as they come, but I can spot flashy, nonsensical BS from a mile away. Apparently, I'm not the only one...

reply

its like it was a film made by and with people who aren't sci-fi fans lol, seems to be happening a lot lately like suits over and money became priority one

reply

Funny you should say that about Natalie Portman, I thought she was the worst thing about the film.

Oh gravity, thou art a heartless bitch!

reply

Just curious, how many times have you guys seen the movie?

reply

For me, just once. I'm probably biased, too, since I saw Avengers before Thor. :/

reply

For me Thor improved immensely upon second viewing. There are some electrifying scenes with Tom Hiddleston. I didn't notice it the first time. It's not just your average blockbuster movie acting. It's very Shakespearean.

reply

Haha! It's "Shakespearean" now? That's very generous of you...

Nevertheless, maybe I'll give it a second shot. Probably not, though. :)

reply

You smugness is unbecoming.

The ACTING is Shakespearean. Go look who the director is. He has directed Henry V, Much ado about Nothing and Hamlet. So is it really that surprising that someone could find similarities to that tradition?

Don't look for fault in what other people say. Look for validity. Try to understand what people say. Don't purposely misunderstand just for the purpose of inflating your own ego.

reply

My comment wasn't a personal attack, and I'm not sure how it's smug, either. In fact, I think it was quite good-natured compared to your comment. But, to entertain your logic...because the director has directed adaptations of a particular writer, all of his other work should be similarly influenced? Well, I suppose then that nobody should take issue with me saying that "The Lovely Bones" is very Tolkienian because Peter Jackson directed it. But, whatever...I get the sense that you were kind of lurking here waiting for an opportunity to flame somebody anyway.

reply

I totally agree. This was pure garbage. There are some fancy guys and girls walking around in plastic suites and with strange helmets. Okay, I could agree with that ... I have seen Star Trek Season 1 and Lord of the Rings.
Then there are these "ice giants" ... whoo, I'm cold, Then there is this metal robot coming to earth ... I said "welllllll" ... and then he slaps Thor in the face and he is almost dying. Ok, that is the end, leave the theatre. Although than the real horror began. The hammer comes flying(!) back to Thor, he grabs it and became alive again(!), and then all the plastic parts came flying in to rebuild his nonsense armor!! Come on!
It is a movie with Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman in it, you can't be serious! After that, Thor keeps flying around like superman. Till that point, I thought Captain America was the worst movie I have ever seen. I was wrong ...

reply

Wow so all of the above people are complete retards. You guys are obviously pimply teens with no *beep* clue about cinema.

Thor was a good movie, based on the comics it did a great job adapting to the big screen. You obviously dont like thor for and felt like being a troll here. Character development was great along with the acting.

Question is why go to this much effort? Are you that much of a *beep* loser?

reply

If you don't mind me saying so, you are extremely observant to notice that I didn't like the movie. I don't want to sound naive, but...are you a detective?

So, after reading your post, I think I have the rules down (please correct me if I'm wrong):

1. People with movie opinions that differ from your own are trolls.
2. People who disagree with your opinions about movies are pimply teens with no *beep* clue about cinema.
3. People who start their own threads about disliking a movie are trolls, not the people who drop in to call them retarded, pimply, teen trolls who have no *beep* clue about cinema.
4. Only threads posted by adoring fans of movies should be allowed in here.
4. All of the above people are complete retards (I guess that includes the guy who agrees with you that the movie was good - that's pefectly logical).
5. People who dislike a particular movie and start a thread about it are *beep* losers, but people who take time out of their busy days to post angry, personally-directed tirades in response to movie opinions they don't agree with are complete winners who were obviously putting themselves at great financial and personal risk by stopping whatever momentous task was at hand to attend to this hateful thread which was unavoidably forced into their lives by the spiteful and dishonorable author of the thread.

Oh wait, that last one was a question on your part. Will it make you happy if I say that I'm a loser? Well, if it keeps you from developing a cerebral aneurysm and stroking out over movie opinion threads, then please share with the world that I'm the biggest loser you've never met. I hope this helps!

XOXO

Nice attempt at being witty and educated it works for you :|

It's okay to not like the thor movie but bashing it by saying it's a crap movie, a bad superhero movie etc just makes you look like an idiot.

Once again your hatred for the character and his origin story(banished to earth to rid himself of his selfishness, arrogance etc)clouds your opinion.

It is a GREAT superhero origin movie and possibly the best they could have done with Thor. His comic origin was slightly different but it was changed for the better in the movie.

Every superhero has a love interest, cap, iron man, spidey, batman etc. Why does it bug you that even a god wants a lady friend?

btw joss w. didnt "fix" him, he had a slightly different costume? lol his character was the same as developed in the thor movie? so your only true gripe must have been the asgardian fashion maybe?

reply

I also don't understand all these people's hate...I don't think they're right at all and I do believe they must have some kind of bug up their collective nether-regions. ;)

This movie blows hard like the rest of the Marvel crap.

"I sympathize with you, [D-Nice] is a scoundrel, [he] should be run out of town, a committee should be formed to boycott him. You may, if you can form such a committee, put me down for a contribution."

In all due seriousness though, you didn't do any of the things this half-wit is accusing you of, he's only exaggerating to inflate his already overbearing ego of inarguable correctness. It's one thing if he disagrees with an opinion, but when someone tries to legitimately discuss calmly why he likes the movie and the other person refuses to acknowledge there can be anything legitimate about an opinion deferring from his and calls him nasty things and refuses to even discuss it with him, he's being a pretentious, opinionated idiot, like most of the internet which is mostly made of the barbaric minorities who seek to rule supreme as gods.

Seriously, this is what passes muster for an acceptable superhero movie?

Well that depends on your idea of what an acceptable Superhero movie is. If you think a Superhero movie is just about explosions and people beating the crap out of each other, then I guess you'll be disappointed by Thor.

If you think a Superhero movie is about the character of the Superhero in question then Thor is a perfectly acceptable Superhero movie. It is a film about relationships. About family, father and sons, brothers, friends, lovers. It is about the transformation of a self-absorbed arrogant young man not worthy of ruling a kingdom into someone who is worthy. It is equally about the tragedy of his brother who feels he is unloved and unappreciated, a son who wants to prove himself worthy of ruling a kingdom but whose misguided ambition and desire for approval leads to his isolation.

No one is saying you have to like the film, but the fact that you don't appreciate something doesn't make it nonsense or garbage. If these things are too subtle for you to appreciate then so be it. But there is no need to act like your opinion is the be all and end all.

I don't think my opinion is the "be all and end all," as you put it. It's just an opinion, like yours is just an opinion. I never said that mine was the most important or even the most accurate. It's just mine, and it's different from yours. Mine is negative regarding the movie, and yours is positive. Plain and simple. And if your opinion is that Thor is "too subtle" for some people to get, that's fine. No big deal. I don't agree with it, but I can live with it.

By the way, I think it's hilarious that so many people on this site are so quick to chastise others for not being open-minded while simultaneously condemning all opposing opinions as being invalid. The spirit of almost every single thread on this site can be summarized like this:

You, your opinion, and everyone who agrees with you = spiteful, judgmental, and hopelessly obtuse.
Me, my opinion, and everyone who agrees with me = intelligent, valid, and wonderfully insightful.

reply

You claimed the film was "garbage" and "nonsense". No if's, but's or maybe's. That is judgmental so don't pretend it's not. I was merely attempting to add balance to this discussion by offering an alternate perspective. I did not condemn your opinion as being invalid, in fact I gave reasons for its validity by noting that opinions on Superhero movies are dependent upon expectations. You made no such concessions.

Are you REALLY this ignorant? If you even try to say something like Iron man 2 being better than Thor, you have absolutely ZERO, believable say in anything comic book-movie related, as Iron Man 2 was one of the worst superhero films i've ever seen (still ahead of Spider-man 3 and Hulk though)

"We were wrong, we were so wrong!"

Why is English the official language in Asgard. I thought they would speak Assgardian. Plot Hole or wtf?

I've watched all marvel movies and i have to say that is a really....really BAD movie!!!

reply

Also surprised at the IMDb ratting.
I watched Thor last night on Sky HD it was not the worst film I have ever seen but I gave it a 5 out 10 here.

reply

I can't understand how much I disagree with you. I gave it 9 out of ten. It's weird how sometimes, something I absolutely love is regarded as garbage by a lot of people. I also gave 9 stars to Avengers, and suddenly almost everyone agree about that.

reply

i have given 10 stars for THOR and AVENGERS in fact i should have given them 8 but due to only few films come out in last decade can match the quality of this two movies i have done this. i can say my movie knowledge and judgement is absolute unmatched by any one in IMDB and maybe on earth which then accumulates to universe and i hope this puts an end to argument about these movies thanks.

Good one:)

thanks and check my Movie list there are some you might like too.

I will.

I agree. It was a piece of *beep* movie. Took about 15 minutes to realize that it was going to suck.

reply

You lot are way over exaggerating! This wasn't an awful film at all, so its not the best, I've seen a lot worse. Devil inside, Insidious, Hunger games, etc. Its something different, if you don't like it you don't have to watch it!
