Was the PENIS scene necessary?
I think the movie could have been more popular without the PENIS scene and references.

shareIt was no big deal. It's just another body part. We've seen all the other ones in movies, so it didn't phase me in the slightest.
... are in bloom again
I found it hilarious. Especially when he refused to get dressed and had the break up talk with him naked. It was great for shock value.

I would have found it much better if it was only in the extended version.... I watched it with my MOTHER thinking that it will b a nice movie about a dude getting over someone (with russell brand in it!!) but when that penis shot on the screen u could probably cut the atmosphere with a knife at my place last nite!

What would be shocking would be to show a shaved vagina. Oh yeaaaaa, they won't do that because there is a double standard bias against men. It seems to be ok to expose males but not females. What hogwash. Men should refuse to view such shows until there is an equal amount of female frontal to go along with the male frontal nudity. It is time to let these directors/writers/producers know that it will no longer be acceptable unless there is nudity equality.
sharetrue. hard not to cringe when looking at another guy's dick.
but...it's just a guy. and it's just a dick. and it was kinda funny. so lol oh well.
I can't believe I read this entire thread. -10 IQ points.
The MPAA will give a movie an NC-17 rating if anything along the lines of erect, or completely shaved come into play. That's the answer to why movies don't show those. How much money is it worth to lose just to show someone with their vagina completely shaved or someone hard?
Yes, Nudity in movies ALWAYS stir a lot of attention, note the LONG threads regarding nudity in any movie that contains nudity.
A movie would get a NC-17 if it depicted a shaved pu**y which is why we no longer see full-frontal nude females anymore in modern period R-rated movies. A movie made today which contained a young naked woman with a big bush would look totally awkward and out-of-date with current times.
That's what i was thinking. I didn't think it was necessary? Like they just had shots of it. I don't care about it being shown or any nude parts i just think it wasn't necessary in that part?

prude. Scared of the naked body perhaps?
Did you ever notice that people who believe in creationism look really un-evolved? - Bill Hicks
It was no more or less necessary than any number of "gratuitous" shots that make up any given movie, but it was funny *slap, slap, slap*. Still laughing.
For the life of me, I don't know why prudes don't do a thorough vetting* of each and every film they and their families go out to see, thereby saving themselves a lot of pointless embarrassment and saving us the incredible boredom of having to read/listen to their oh-so-offended whines about things that are not offensive to people who are capable of rational thought.
*Though if recent history (ie. Sarah Palin & Joe the Plumber) have shown us anything it is that conservatives are apparently incapable of vetting anything.

It's not just the penis scene, it's the numerous scenes of penis. The first time I laughed, but after that I didn't really need to see more.

check out that link - it's no wonder Judd Apatow's movies have put penises in our faces in his movies. I hope he feels the same way about clit.
"I hope he feels the same way about clit"
Unfortunately, men do have a big disadvantage regarding female nudity on film, women are allowed to see ALL of a man's genitailia, men are NOT allowed by the MPAA to view any more than pubic hair which is in many cases CGI enhanced (fake). Men are simply not allowed to see ANY depiction of the vulva on the big screen regardess if, a director, producer, studio, or actress wants it displayed. End of Story!
Not true. While you may not see an actual clit in an R rated movie, I have seen movies that showed women with completely shaved pubes and the movies were rated R, not NC-17. "Knocked Up" (written/directed by Apatow himself) featured very close up shots of a completely shaved vag during the birth scene. Whether or not it was the real thing is debated to this day, but it looked very realistic to the point that I don't think the MPAA would've known the difference and still gave it an R rating.
If that one isn't real or not real enough for you, check out the movie "Code 46" (2003). It showed a close up shot of a completely shaved (and definitely real) vulva for a good 5 seconds. The movie was rated R, not NC-17.
The movie "Anything For Love" (also referred to as "Just One of the Girls" - 1993) showed full frontal female nudity, including a completely shaved vulva in the girls locker room scene. The movie was rated R, not NC-17.
The movie "8 MM 2" (2005) by far featured the most full frontal female nudity I've ever seen in an R rated movie. Most of the entire second half of the movie had full frontal female nudity all over, including showing a couple totally shaved girls. There is an "unrated" version that showed more, but the R rated version still showed a couple girls who were totally shaved.
Hostel (2005) had brief full frontal female nudity, and showed a girl completely shaved (albeit, it was brief and from a distance), but nonetheless, the movie was R rated, not NC-17.
Zombie Strippers (2008) had brief full frontal (and completely shaved) female nudity, rated R not NC-17.
There are other movies out there that showed girls completely shaved down below and managed to get an R rating, not NC-17. I forgot the names, but one of them was a girl at a mental hospital I think it was. She was fighting off doctors and nurses and falls to the ground, all the while, she was completely nude, and shaved down below, vulva was visible. Rated R, not NC-17.
Another movie showed a girl on her knees on a bed, with her legs slightly apart, and you can clearly see she was shaved there since her vulva was visible. Rated R, not NC-17.
I'm sure there are more out there, so I don't know where you got the notion that a completely shaved vulva is an automatic NC-17. If they can show male parts, and male parts are very external and visible, and still manage an R rating, I don't see why female parts would be given an automatic NC-17.
The question then becomes, why are some movie makers adding fake pubic hair on females if they can get away with showing it shaved and still manage an R rating? You'll have to ask them, but my guess would be they also believe this myth that a completely shaved vulva is an automatic NC-17. The above movies show that this is untrue.
