Was the PENIS scene necessary?
I think the movie could have been more popular without the PENIS scene and references.

shareAn interesting thread with good conversation and only one really bad idiot on it (though even the idiot did get off one good funny one-liner).
I think many directors are trying to equalize things in Hollywood, after decades of women being able to flash boobs & bush, but if you saw even a man's butt it was suddenly shocking.
Now I'll admit I'm still mildly homophobic enough where the penis scene made me uncomfortable. I also realized that it was this latent prejudice that made me uncomfortable and not anything done improperly by the director. It was more startling than anything to me. Eventually I will get over my hang-up, but I do realize that it is just that--my hang-up and nothing more.
For me, the question is any nudity really necessary? I still have the belief that nudity as 'art' in movies is questionable, and more of an attempt to drum up sales. Still, for the sake of argument if it is art, then fine. All bets are off, and do what you can to stimulate all parts of my brain.
And on a sub-topic running through this thread--boobs are not the same as penis in a movie. Hollywood--or the MPAA, at least--has made it clear that the rough sequence of standards is all butt, female breast, female bush and, finally male penis. I don't recall seeing female clitoris in any mainstream movie yet, so I'm not sure where that stands.

Judd Apatow produced this movie. Judd Apatow loves male nudity.
From an interview a few months ago:
"I'm gonna get a penis in every movie I do from now on. When this writers strike ends, that is my dream. It really makes me laugh in this day and age, with how psychotic our world is, that anyone is troubled by seeing any part of the human body; that is amusing to me."
so in that respect, yes. it was necessary.
Why are you so concerned with this? And what does it have to do with the film's "popularity"? I think you just like typing the word PENIS in all caps. All in all a very juvenile post.
shareno it was no necessary at all. but *beep* hilarious. and it's a comedy.
shareI loved it.
It turned me on.

I was surprised to see his penis. It showed it three times. once would have been enough.
shareis it necessary for you to watch the movie then come on here and post about it?
i thought it was pretty funny, most people do.
The shots of Jason Segel's penis are shock comedy, and that aspect adds to how funny the scene is.
