Is anyone actually looking forward to FOUR sequels?
Do you think they waited too long to kick these off?

shareIt's CGI... the audience will line up when it's time...
shareI didn't really like the first one.
It wasn't a bad film, but it wasn't great either.
Very much so. The first wasn't a movie, it was like one of them 3D rides they had at Universal Studios and Disney World back in the day. It was an event. And i'm expecting the same for years to come soon.
shareNot a fan of 3D myself, but this was definitely a milestone in the life of 3D cinema.
sharein what way?
shareIt's one of the movies that forced the theatre owners to install digital and 3d projectors, thus accelerating the decline in the use of film in projection... Kodak made a lot of it's money through making prints for release, so this hurt their ability to have scale in film production for capture/filming as well...
This change was a big deal for cinema exhibitors and allowed the studios to create a distribution channel for the later CGI filled 3D movies releases of other movies (originals and conversions) and to do so digitally... It also created a market for consumer electronics companies to made 3D TV sets for the home, which was a fad for several years...
It was accelerated because Avatar was such a big movie in marketing and viewership, it also used a lot of new tech and gave the teams involved good experience in actually shooting in 3d... From the crew and filmmakers to the VFX teams...
It still sucks as a movie though đ and I will not watch the next ones, unless i am dragged to it by my friends...
Oh, I'll probably see them or at least some of then, I really do like a good visually spectacular escapist movie now and then.
Of course "Avatar" is a long way from being a great movie, but I'd be lying if I didn't get twelve bucks of fun out of seeing it in a theater.
I came here to create this topic, but you beat me to it. I think this project will turn out like George Lucasâ big idea about him making six more Star Wars movies. Not only is the clock ticking and Cameron aging, Avatar itself has aged very poorly. Compare it to Jurassic Park, which is still fun to watch as a movie, although the wave of enthusiasm it generated when it was released was because of the FX. Also, Sam Worthingtonâs post-Avatar career is such that he may be in an ABC sitcom next year. Iâm not looking forward to this.
shareYes! It will be refreshing from all the comic book/star wars stuff. Something different!
shareIndeed. After all the Cosmic Marvel and the Star Wars movies they crank out before Avatar arrives, a return to science based realistic space exploration of strange worlds will be VERY welcome.
shareSure it will be... just like the first special effects-laden Avatar which had the worldâs most original story and plot. (Dances with Wolves & Pochantas say hi). Wonder what familiar story Avatar 2 will tell.
Refreshing? Nice try, Cameron :)
I loved almost everything Cameron has done, and this movie is EASILY one of the worst films I've ever sat through. I should love it, but it is SOOOO cliched, and boring. The planet is uninteresting and way too Earth like. 6 legged.... "Horses"?? Yawn. floating glowy jelly fish? how original - not really. floating rocks? so what. Man, the dialog is so childish.
and OH MY GOD! "Narration??" Good lord. make it stop.
I'd rather PLAY video games than sit and WATCH one.
I'm happy for his success with his passion project, but man, I can't even get through it twice.
They have to add something original and terrifying for the sequels.
How about the blue fuzzy aliens have tiny reptilian aliens with sharp claws and pointy teeth inside them, who eat their way out then lay eggs in the stupid humans?
Satan, as always, is right on the money: they need to spin the crap out of this "story" because, like most of the people on this board (and anybody with a sense of place and knwledge of movies) know, it's quite a bad universe with uninteresting characters, story and sci fi/fantasy cliche one after another.
I would like to see something like, the blue people and the main guy are, after all, evil, or on the wrong side, like the big tree was the source of evil, or controlling them, or have to fight some moral dilemma against nature. I mean, something other than "we are good, and we fight you, because you are evil".
