does anyone think that pacino kinda sucked in this?

dont get me wrong though, i really like al pacino. and i was very excited when i heard that hes gonna be the villain.

but when it came out, i was dissapointed because i personally think that he didnt give his best performance.

anyone felt the same way?

reply

I think Pacino did OK with the role he had. The weakness was in the script, which didn't offer much character development.

reply

I hope your logic will evolve into what I personally believe now:

That a good actor is not made by his/her talent, rather by how relatable and/or believable his character is written on paper.

reply

He's quite good in the film I think. He makes Willy Bank memorable - and there ain't a lot to work with there.

He's also slyly funny in the part - it was good to seem lighten up a little.

reply

No...he did, however, suck in 88 Minutes.

reply

He was good here. I agree about 88 minutes, Revolution and Cruisin.

reply

I think Pacino is turning into Ron Silver.

The big difference is that Pacino just mailed this one in...Garcia just, well...just sucked.

reply

What do you mean Ron Silver?

reply

[deleted]

Yeah...I like Pacino too, but I think a lot of other actors could have played this particular role. His performance doesn't etch itself into your memory like many of his other roles have.

reply

Yes. He was awful in this movie. He's a great actor, but not in this movie. I can barely watch him in this. There's just something about how he tries to be threatening that just doesn't work.

reply

He's not playing threatening in a gangster like Corleone or Montana sort of way. He's playing it as a cocky slimy fake tanned orange dyed hair over the top casino owner. He was hilarious.

reply

yeah, he kinda sucked, but no more than any of his roles in the last 20-25 years, the pinnacle represented by the cringe-inducing over-acting in 'Scent Of A Woman'.

I think his 'suckiness' has something to do with his physical appearance and can't be helped. He is unable to look serious or menacing with those hanging jowls.

Has he had cosmetic surgery, or is it male menopause?

Something's just not right. Poor fella.

Al Pacino (and Robert DeNiro) have become cinema whores. It's ALL cash and carry, now. The performance? Just phone it in. In the case of Pacino, the days of "The Godfather," "Dog Day Afternoon," "Serpico" and "Scarface" are LONG over with. Pity.

reply

i agree.

DeNiro, however, is still very watchable, even as a whore and Focker.

It was more the writing. He was so one-dimensional. They put in unnecessary scenes of how nasty he is. We get the point so why have the pointless scene of him firing some random maintenance guy for the green water.

There wasn't much for Pacino to do.

Me fail English? But, that's unpossible.

I agree; I really wanted to see him bring something to this movie (I mean were talking about Pacino here!) but he didn't. Maybe it was the script, but I am not sure.

Al Pacino. Robert DeNiro. Dustin Hoffman. Did I miss anybody? They're ALL just whoring themselves out, now. At least Paul Newman did the respectful thing: He died.

ya hang around long enough .. everybody turns into a caricature and a phone-it-in. Good thing they're being replaced with the likes of Michael Shannon and a new generation of born actors.

You sound like a 12 year old, he's 74 years old and all you can do is criticize his aging.

You day he hasn't had a
good performance but I guess you haven't seen:

Donnie Brasco
Insomnia
The Insider
Chinese Coffee
You Don't Know Jack
Angels of America

He has since won 2 Emmys, a Tony and is getting critical acclaim for a Shakespeare play.

reply

In my opinion, Pacino hasn't delivered a decent performance since Sea of Love.

I have a new philosophy. I'm only going to dread one day at a time.

reply

Pacino was WRONG for this script. They were desperate to get a "big name" actor.

Having said that, he simply went through the motions. If you look carefully in some scenes (early in the movie), he almost steps over other actors lines.

He just took his check and ran. Someone else would have made this good movie, even better.

reply

He should had a little scream at the end then he would of pwnd this film.

reply

I also think PACINO was wasted in this movie, but for me the Stinker Award goes to ELLIOTT GOULD and his Jewish ham salad performance... This movie would have been world's better, if GOULD's character died in the beginning...

1) that would have given the rest of the Ocean's crew more incentive to avenge his death...

AND

2) we wouldn't have to see GOULD hamming it up for the cameras during those final scenes... Man, he was so awful...

That's my word!

reply

Gould's performance was great in 11, not bad but a dip in 12, and then 13 was definitely 'Jewish ham salad' as pointed out in that final third after he wakes up for good. It all started in the closet with the summary of clothing, then the scanning of the casino, then the raising the minimum part.... so hammy like you said. It was entirely different than his 11 performance indeed!

He wasn't awful but looked liked he could have cared less. the plot was less than rivoting. wasn't much for him to do.
