Favorite I Shouldn't Be Alive episode?

What's (are) your favorite episode(s), and why?

Mine were the "Trapped Under the Ice" and "Crash in a Volcano."

The reason I liked "Trapped Under the Ice" so much was because the son was smart enough to leave and seek for help, but not stupid enough to go on when he sees the big river. He was finally saved when a passing private plane sees him. The father was very smart as well. He was smart enough to give their only lighter to his son, and when his shelter caught fire, he remembered to keep one burning log to keep a fire going. Oh, and not to mention that in the beginning, the son knew what to do to his father who was suffering from hypothermia. They deserved to live!

I liked "Crash in a Volcano" because well actually, I actually don't remember why. But they got saved at different times, and throughout the whole time, they had no idea if the others were still alive. It was such a great episode, too.

TRAPPED UNDER THE ICE
The Dilemma: Could you leave your dad alone in a wilderness full of grizzlies to save his life?

A father and son on a summer rafting trip in Alaska hit a freak stretch of ice. Their raft flips over and both men are dragged under the ice by the fast running river. They survive the ordeal only to find themselves without shelter or food in freezing wet clothing in one of North America's remotest spots. The son leaves his dad to set out on an epic and perilous hike over mountains and rivers, along the way fending off grizzly bears. In a stroke of pure luck, after days alone, he is spotted by a lone passing plane and must reach his dad before it's too late.

CRASH IN A VOLCANO
The Survivors: Mike Benson, Chris Duddy and Craig
The Dilemma: Could you survive a helicopter crash into an inferno?

A Hollywood camera crew taking helicopter shots over a live volcano experiences engine failure and crash-lands into the erupting mountain. They survive only to find themselves just yards from molten lava. Alone and suffocating from the crater's poisonous gasses, each man makes his own bid for escape, thinking the others are dead. But are they?

Trapped Under the boulder was my favourite!
I loved it.I particularly liked the Dutchman Geert running for help, putting himself in danger at first but then realising that he was not helping his new friend so he calmed down. Got help and wrote a help in the beach and remembered where he was. I sympathised with both of them and there was no resentment just a life long friendship.

Climb out of Hell (Canadian guy fell and shattered his pelvis) and Blood in the Mountain (Pom living in New Zealand falls breaks ankle wrists and lacerations to thigh) were powerful episode but very uncomfortable to watch because they dealt with someone dealing with an EXTREME amount of pain.
I think the episode Trapped in the Canyon (Athlete breaks back falling from canyon) is also like that but I can't find it anywhere online.

I can't remember the name of the episode but I really liked the one where the dude was lost in the amazon with his dog after his canoe tipped over. It was really sad when in desperation he killed his dog to eat only to be unable to eat it. Oh, and the soldier/bullet ants he woke up in...

Thanks for this post !

I highly recommend "Crushed and Alone" aka "Crushed by Quad Bike" (S03E4).

"In January 2008, Ken Hildebrand was collecting beaver traps in the Canadian Wilderness. When he loses control of his quad bike, it topples over and crushes his legs. His survival gear is out of reach. He must survive for 4 days in negative temperatures and coyotes trying to eat him."

Talk of a new Charles Bronson ! The toughness, ingenuosity and calm determination of Ken have let me in awe. Also, the way he was rescued is nothing short of a divine intervention and adds to the "beauty" of the story.

But the reason why I favour this episode so much is that I feel he taught me an invaluable lesson of life : even in the most difficult situations, don't let your emotions overrule your mind, and keep trying. Way to go, Ken !
