'white girl'

ok we all know it is totally unexceptable and wrong for a white person to call a black person the "N" word. but doesn't anyone find it wrong for the head black cheerleader to keep calling brittney "white girl"? it is really starting to piss me off.

give me a break. if it was a white squad referring to someone as "black girl", everyone would be calling it a racist movie and have a cow.

reply

I agree, that's not right!!

reply

Since I've already thrown in my opinion, I just thought I'd say.... That rabbit in your sig is cute.

Anyway, you know what this racism (or whatever you want to call it) topic made me realize? How much I hated high school... XD

"doesn't anyone find it wrong for the head black cheerleader to keep calling brittney 'white girl'?"

Wrong? Maybe she was complimenting her. ;-)

reply

Er, it's because "white girl" doesn't have connotations that go back hundreds of years like the 'n' word does.

I'm white btw. And you're an idiot.

Being called a white girl is not offensive. That's what she is she's a white girl. I'm black, but I have vary fair skin. People call me white girl all the time, and I don't find it offensive at all!

How much longer are you going to go on blaming your dreams on for own weaknesses?

reply

in the movie it was used as a racial term but the fact that it was soooo overused really got annoying !!!

reply

i agree.

also, think of the lines:

"black people are crazy about their pets"

and

"coffee's like crack to white people"

if a black girl had come into brittanys school and all the girls were like "black people this, black people that" it would be more wrong than what happened in the movie. unfair.

I think the most important thing to do is take a step back and realize that this is a movie about teenaged cheerleaders. I don't think there's going to be any intense background messages about racism in today's world. Also, this movie was made on the basis of entertainment and entertainment only. It depicts the typical high school lifestyle or what people assume is the typical high school lifestyle.

The fact that everyone constantly discusses whose more racist is what keeps racism alive. And yes, there is an overusage of the phrase 'white girl' in this movie. The white girls are depicted as preppy, rich, spoiled brats. The black girls are depicted as defensive, angry, poor people. Both races are shown to be something they're not here.

Gay is more than just who you have sex with. It is who you are attracted to, and people 'come out' because gay isn't often accepted in this world today, so it can be a big deal. And yes, we are all people, but black people feel the need to declare that they are black and proud by having 'black tv' and other things. Black people have been oppressed for so long, so it is part of how some blacks have overcome that.

reply

It's double standards and this *beep* ty movie seems to be promoting it even more.

Day-Lewis - Cotillard - Bardem - Swinton!

reply

Yes, now this is a topic that I could rant on about all day every day. Why is it acceptable for black people to be racist to white people? If we are racist to black people we get grilled for it. It is totally unacceptable. All the way through the movie this allong with the total amount of calling people fat totally pissed me off.

I think generally this movie sets a bad example to youths. Racism is never alright, no matter what your colour. It's bad and incorrect conduct.

I thought it was racist. Why should Hayden's character Britney get singled out as being a "white girl"? It's as if the other characters were labelling her as something different just because she was "white"- which in my opinion is racist. If she went through the movie calling the black cheerleaders "black girl" or "coloured girl" everyone would be up in arms about it. It seems that being racist is something only white people are capable of...

Yes, in the world according to anyone who's not got white skin.... only white people are racist and the rest of the world are prefect. Even though they call us offensive things, and single us all out, they are not racist.

All you have to do now-a-days is say "hello" to a person who's not white and they pull out the race card...... it's pathetic.
