This movie was an insult to human intelligence.

After viewing this ridiculouse excuse of a film, I have come to realise I have no more faith left in humanity. Seriously? Is it just me or are people really getting dumber these days, every single Hollywood cliché was used in this film, there was no imagination in the script whatsoever...it was made for stupid people, who are incapable of thinking for themselves, like mindless drones that Hollywood has produced for a quick cash crop. What happened to those movies like Resorviour Dogs and Fight Club, why are we constantly subjected to this banal tripe like Avatar, which only rely on big budget spending on advanced technological eye candy for success at the box office...where is the *beep* story, character development, they keep forgetting those two aspects because they are no longer relevant anymore, it's because the intelligence level of the human gene pool has dropped significantly in this past decade. The mainstream media has turned you all into cattle! Fewer and fewer movies that require a certain intellectual thought process are being released each year. *beep* all you people, who enjoy this sh**. I’m glad this movie failed at the box office, but it won't make a difference because Hollywood will still keep churning them out!

Thanks for reading, just needed to get that off my chest because I was forced at gunpoint to watch this film...I honestly don't like to be reminded of how dumb people are for watching movies like this, it's just depressing.

Your hypocrisy is 'ridiculouse'. Seems ironic to me that you scorn people who watch a movie that you don't like and yet you can't even make the attempt to spell accurately.

I enjoyed this movie. Did I find it intelligent or witty? No. Did I find it original or inspiring? No. Did I find it entertaining and funny? Hells yes.

I went looking for lots of blood & guts, corny one liners, explosions, Chris Evans being a semi-likeable wise-ass, Zoe Saldana being a feisty jr. size Rosario Saldana-in-Sin-City, and Morgan being one of those likeably lethal teddybears he does, and I got that, and I was happy. I didn't really compare it to anything except what I said above, and I didn't even think of some of that until right now.

mark st has a point, in that this film is a p*ss-poor offering aimed at, shall we say, the type of folk who enjoy McDonald's food regularly? And I don't think he's drawing comparisons between it and R.D. or F.C., moreover, he simply invites the question, what ever happened to half-decent films? I think this is a perfectly reasonable question to ask after paying out to see The Losers. Whatever happened to taking a chance on a random film you don't know much about at your local flea pit on a Friday night and actually finding yourself sitting in front of something that isn't poorly acted and executed claptrap that doesn't incline you to lean forward and wretch over the person sitting in front of you? If I was being generous I'd give this movie a 3. Its rating of 6.6 baffles me somewhat I have to say.

This movie wasn't that bad...easy to say its 4 the fast food junkies of the world, such a cliche way of thinking!
I hated fight club but thought Res Dogs was fantastic!!
I like how there are movies for everyone....however hearing cliche remarks bugs me, kinda an easy cop-out, (like kicking someone when there down) you want trash movie go see any Gus van saint film, but many would disagree with that opinion, good for them I say, least they stand for something like I do with this film "IT WASN'T THAT BAD!!"

reply

Yes, The movie was "that bad", which is why I took the trouble to be rude about it in the first place. Enjoy your cheeseburger. (And by the way, you kick someone when THEY'RE down, not there. I rest my case.

reply

Yes, because someone who made a grammar mistake couldn't POSSIBLY have a valid point...

Whilst The Losers was never really going to win any points for originality, most stories that appear on film are recycled from somewhere, it is very rare we get to see a truly original film if we are honest.
What it did have was a decent cast who, for the most part, managed to make their characters memorable, some decent dialogue and enjoyable set pieces. Even if the story they were in had been told before, this was still an enjoyable trek through fairly familiar ground.

There are hundreds of other action films out there that cannot make the same claim. As has been said before on this post, if you are an action fan, you could do a lot worse.
If you are not an action fan, and everything needs to be a thought provoking masterpiece, then you probably went to see the wrong film...

What

yep. Hollywood has always maken remakes. But managed to keep them interesting in the past.

The real problem with Hollywood today is the talentless bozos in charge of it today.

Will my head explode?

Ooooooorrr will my heart stop beating? (oooooo SEE WUT I DID RITE THURR!?!?)

reply

the OP is just plain stupid, who on earth would go to watch such movie expecting an intelligent plot and some good character development?

do you watch old black and white movies expecting to see beautiful colours??

lets take a look at your case:

you wanted to see a good plot and good character development, and you do what? you go to the theater to watch 'The losers' a movie about cia' soldiers that are betrayed and now want vengeance... damm i guess i made my point already you failed(1)

you choose a movie at the cinema that you dont know anything about and you expect it to be reeeeally good, you thought that by going to a movie theater it would be a no brainer to find a good movie... you dont know nothing about cinemas, you failed(2)

you expect a movie with chris evans to be good... nuff said, you failed again(3)

you can see in the trailer that this is nothing more than GIJOE returns! but you still wanted a 'fight club'... failed(4)

this story is based on comic books, even worse its based on DC comic books, you know, those who created gay icon superman, aquaman, rubberman, the pinguin, and the ridiculous teen titans not to mention manimal... and still you were expecting something really really good... did I mention you failed again?(5)

even worse, you couldnt accept all these facts after the first 5minutes, you kept waiting for something that obviously would never happen and you even come on to imdb to complain about it... at least you're persistent... at failing(6)

why dont you just watch fight club again? oh and reservoir dogs is just a masturbatory exercise for/from teenage minds, nothing more, tarantino is NOT deep, never was and probably never will be... live with it

reply

I'm with the sentiments of the original poster... the poor maligned fella'!

"Transformers" strikes me as a good example of the vapidness of characters in recent action movies. However, I do like action movie eye candy in the right context. Does action and character development need to be mutually exclusive?

Take some of James Cameron's mid-career works, like "Aliens," "The Abyss," and "Terminator 2." These films were technical feasts for the eyes, but yet were driven by ensemble casts of colorful and identifiable characters. Wouldn't more of those kinds of movies appeal to all levels of audience sophistication?

BTW, I don't extend this to later Cameron work. The cast in "Avatar" were given a sad old backseat to the technology, as demonstrated best by the emotionless drone called Sam Worthington. It's probably telling that the biggest stars now are Worthington and the equally dimensionless Christian Bale.

Oops. Now I'm just ranting aimlessly. Hopefully my original point, and my support for the OP, is detectable somewhere within.

reply

Yeah . . . can't agree with you on Christian Bale, that man puts out some AMAZING performances, Velvet Goldmine, The machinist, American Psycho and Rescue Dawn and performances enough to prove to me that he has some amazing acting chops.

Feed me a stray cat.

reply

Avatar was an excellent movie and once again showed Cameron can push the limits of technology further.

Why do you think its the highest grossing film of all time and its only what, 7-8 months old?

The movie has gotten countries to change the names of their mountain ranges, its gotten protesters to dress up as na'vi in foriegn countries.

The only people who don't like that movie are the little immature scrubs who think its cool to hate something that is popular.

If you think Christian Bale is dimensionless, maybe you should watch more of his films other than Batman.

reply

Thanks for the heads up. I'll skip downloading this one, because I understand the frustration you describe. Lately, I've been checking out foreign films due to this.

reply

I always laugh when people say that.

Foreign language is automatic movie cred. I can just imagine some kids in France, sitting in their art deco room saying 'oh my god, French films are so lame . . . I'm totally going to watch films from New Zealand"

... frence...

Is seeing a typo a new experience for you?

Feed me a stray cat.

reply

that is not a typo you idiot, do you even know what a typo is?

reply

A typo is when you make an error in typing which makes the word appear dofferent than what it would ordinarily be.

Do you really think there is anyone in the world who thinks the country is Frence?

Feed me a stray cat.

reply

a typo is when you hit the wrong key, but when you write 'frence' its only because thats the way you hear it in your mind, and THAT is sad... why try to deny it? i guess you also like to write 'younited states 'o' famerica' Wright?

Do you really think there is anyone in the world who thinks the country is Frence?

you did

reply

How on EARTH would anybody hear it as 'Frence' nobody even says it like that.

I had to study it for 3 years in highschool, which left me with very little understanding of the language but a lot of knowledge about it being called FRANCE.

I have not ever heard one person pronounce it 'frence' I have heard some people pronounce it like 'frawnce' which is usually french people themselves.

'younited states 'o' famerica' Wright?

Well I'm not an American so I do not often have cause to right it down, but when I do I would write USA, or United States, usually. What do you mean why 'Wright', I get the feeling you're not being ironic on purpose.

Moral of the story: 'Frence' = typo, logically as there is no one I have ever heard that pronounces it in such a stupid way, although I guess you do as you laughing imply that it is similar sounding.

Feed me a stray cat.

OP, I got your back. I totally agree with you. Hollywood has been making crap, with rare exceptions, for a long time now, and it's really come to a boil the last 5 years.

Thank God for the people making films in Europe, Asia, South America, and other countries. Foreign films have been better than Hollywood stuff for a long time now. At least they're trying to make original, and thought provoking films. Yes, they do fall into the Hollywood trap at times, but overall, the quality of their films is vastly superior. It's not even close.

"The Losers" was lacking in pretty much every area imaginable. Yeah, there were a few chuckles here and there, and some OK action scenes, but this film was weak. It's especially disappointing when you read that they butchered the source material. If they had kept true to the comic, this film could have worked.

Jason Patrick was just a flat out awful casting as the villain. When you can't even get the villain right, you've FAILED.

reply

wierd thing is... people seemed to like jason Patrick

reply

I liked Jason as the bad guy, he made me lol a few times. Don't use this film as a scapegoat for some of the crap that certainly has been made in the last couple of decades. It's not an awesome, thought provoking movie, sure, but it's not complete garbage of the sort you're all referring to. You clearly haven't seen White Chicks if you think The Losers is truly horrific.

When people learn the dif between "I don't like this" and "This sucks", it puts a smile on my face.

reply

C'mon man, you got some point here, but do you really think that this is the right board for such ranting? It's a movie, based on a COMIC... That should be enough said. Ofcourse it's gonna be a no brainer with some visual effects and explosions.
While watching it, I kept thinking that it reminds me so much of the movie "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra", which was so, so bad.
Anyways, I gave "The Losers" 6/10 and 5/10 for the "G.I. Joe" bullsht which is probably more than they deserve. :D

The only thing I'm gonna remember from this movie are Zoe Saldana's legs and:
- I'm warning you, I am a lethal killing machine. It was a secret government experiment. They did stuff to me. Spooky stuff... Anal stuff. It turned me into a dangerous telekinetic. In the words of Ancient Taoist masters, Don't start none... Won't be none.
- Face down, or I'll make your heart stop beatin with my mind.
:D

reply

Agreed. Pure garbage. A waste of time watching it.
