Perhaps the best movie of all time.

Just phenomenal! Absolutely wondrous and mesmerizing, so alive.

I know the pure literary types seem to hate Malick, but there is more to the world than novels and this guy is an incredible story teller in film and he is one who realizes that film is different format than a book. It probably helps if you are one who is full of awe and wonder and not the sort who drives past a glorious sunset or maple tree in the fall in a state of complete obliviousness. A quick visual flash can transmit the emotions, thought, ideas of 10,000 words and some seem to entirely miss this when it comes to most of his films.

The New World was fantastic too in the same way.

It's one of the best, however I think it was a bit too long. I watched this film with an open mind and no expectation. I will say this, visually the film is breathtaking. It takes a few viewings to really get a good understanding of the film.

Always look for the positive in every situation.

Agree! Well to a point as I'd never make a finite statement like that myself but yes, agree with everything else you say. It's just a stunningly beautiful, moving and awe inspiring film. I watched it for a third time the other night…it's been years since I saw it last and once again, I was sobbing through the babies to toddler part culminating in the magical moment when Jessica Chastin points up to sky and says "That's where God lives" then that beautiful music of The Moldau…Wow!
I have two growing boys myself and watching this always makes me cherish them. Just those small beautiful moments of raising children so stunningly captured.

It's not even the best film this century, would be Mulholland Drive followed closely by Yi Yi.

What the **** is so special about a maple tree in the fall? What the **** is "glorious" about a sunset?

Putting men on the moon with technology from the 60s is "special," not a sunset.
Mankind coming to dominate the world with nothing but their minds, practically exterminating far stronger, far faster, far healthier beasts without so much as lifting a finger is "glorious," not a sunset...

In my opinion.

I am intelligent enough to admit my own stupidity. Are you?

They're beautiful and remind you that there are forces out there much greater than ourselves (whether you call it "God" or "the universe" or "existence" or "nature" or "time" or whatever is inconsequential). Not to discount the amazing achievements of mankind, but we're but a brief air bubble in the ocean of time.

I thought badlands and the thine red line were better and those two movies go into my top 20-30. tree of lif goes somewhere in 70-80th place.

Subjectively yes, it's my favourite of all time. But I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
