for all the ADULT haters of this movie

this movie was developed for 6 to 12 years olds not for adults so all the sdults should stop complaining about this movie. the KIDS enjoy this movie

It's not even that. I love a ton of movies that are categorized as "just for kids." But I deeply care about quality films and storylines. I consider this the worst movie I have ever seen in my life, and one of the worst films ever made because it has bad PLOT and bad CHARACTERIZATION, among other things.

And yet people continue to throw that "it's-a-movie-for-kids" straw-man argument around.

ZeeXy, are you referring to the "Stick to the Status Quo" scene? Because that is actually the scene I hate most of all, and I think you make some very good points with that. What I hate about it is not only is that scene written to be over-the-top, but how everyone acted so shocked that every person around them had more than one interest besides the activity they pursue in the school. In other words:

Chess club member: I like to cook in my spare time.

Peer: OMG, you are a horrible person! Get the hell away from me, you make me sick!

Science geek: I like to go horseback riding.

Peer: What an atrocity! You are no longer welcome among us!

Cheerleader: I like to volunteer at the local hospital.

Peer: Shh, don't even mention that out loud! Keep that a secret!

I think you get my point. This was the scene that made the turning point for me when watching it. Before, the movie was, at worst, just annoying, but when this scene came on that's when I was blown away. I was blown away by how low they had sunk into the storyline of the movie. This scene was what confirmed and defined my hatred for this movie, and therefore make it or break it for me.

Why? Because it was mean-spirited, it was over-the-top horrible, and it was blatantly unrealistic. Nothing remotely like that happens in real life. I could buy Sharpay and Ryan going out of their way to prevent Troy and Gabriella from auditioning for the show. I could buy Gabriella's new friends trying to discourage her. I could buy Troy's teammates trying to talk him out of it. But I cannot buy the ENTIRE STUDENT BODY going along with the whole thing. I also cannot see them telling you to stick with one thing and that be the end of it. In reality, nobody cares whether a classmate they barely know goes to audition for the school play, even if he is the captain of the basketball team. The entire student body isn't going to jump down your throat just because you're a jock and want to audition for a play, or do something besides play sports. They're also not going to care if you're in the science club and you do other things in your spare time that you're also passionate about.

I didn't enjoy my high school experience too much, but I'll give them this; they encouraged you to be involved in many things, not just one. Maybe my classmates were nicer than normal high schools; I don't know. But the fact remains that what happened in that scene would not happen in real life. It was stupid, contrived, utterly infuriating to watch, and quite possibly the worst scene in the movie. The drama teacher agreeing to change the date of callbacks just because two students ask her to, the ridiculous lead up to the climax, and the ending, as horribly bad as they are, have nothing on the "Status Quo" scene.

Someone has issues. It isn't based on the fact that it isn't exactly for adults. Grow up, anyone can watch it, wheather they are a baby, child, teen, adult, whatever. Just stating, not every adult hates it not every child or young teen likes it. It's based on a person's OPINION.Do you get that, you understand now?

I'm sorry but HSM is just one of the many reasons Disney Channel has devolved into...The-Teen-Pop-Drivel-Channel.

Even as a kid I found this kind of tripe revolting. It's never Ok to pretend that it's Ok.
