Good storyline---------you r retarded to think otherwise

The storyline in this movie was very solid. I dont understand how people can make so many negative comments on this aspect of the movie, especially about the scene at the end. Ok, so souls go up to 'heaven' and make rain.

Im also sick of people who complain that the movie lacks explanation. REALLY?! YOU want an explanation for a movie that starts off in a apocalyptic world with puppet robots ?! REALLY!? Seriously, if you can accept that fact, you should be able to stomach the rest of the movie without being pissed at all the unexplained scene/story elements.

In order to love this movie, you must simply open your mind to the idea that above all it is a creative piece of art. SIMPLY AS THAT.

Agree in general with O.P. They say youth is wasted on the young. Perhaps senses (sight, sound) are wasted on the (literally) thoughtless.

You're retarded if you think that this awkward balancing act between a childrens movie and a mature movie had a good storyline. The character are as taken from a childrens book, yet the surroundings in the movie world is bleek and filled with corpses and destruction. It's very awkward really. The story itself seemed very rushed and uninvestigative and the plot can hardly be described as original.

If you "love" this movie, well that's very sweet and romantic then. But people look for different things when they evaluate a movie, and calling people retarded because they might disagree with you is - not retarded, but - incredibly moronic and unintelligent. You are right that the creative vision saved this movie. Even if the animations and textures were outdated, it was quite fun to study the creations by 'The Machine'. But with that being said, this is the only thing that keeps this movie from sinking and it's a shame. Throughout watching this, I liked and I really really wanted it to be a great movie, but it just wasn't.

Story? Sorry, but there was no story in this film. It was a mindless action movie.

No the story for 9 is not silver plater worthy. So much effort was put into the visuals I got the feeling the story was put on the back burner. Holes in story telling are not a sign that fans don't know what their watching it's a sign that the story telling got lazy. And that is exactly how watching 9 felt. Great potential poor execution. Visually great, nice tone and feel, poor story telling. The puppets are all different parts of one mans soul....So were they making this up on the fly or was it written by a 14 year old?

Turn that 9 upside down and I would say a 6/10 is fair, if not generous.

"great potential, poor execution " is is exactly how I felt. I like how the the 9 characters are different parts of the Scientist's soul, but.....a lot of the characters just don't seem like real characters to me, just rushed, pieces of characters. That, and the movie would've been a LOT longer.

Thats an action flick but animated

It hardly seemed like there was a story. It seemed more like a demonstration of CGI and clever cartooning.

None of this movie took place in anything resembling reality, yet we're supposed to take its message, whatever it was, seriously.

How, exactly, did the Scientist put parts of his soul into the robots? I don't think anyone that believes in a soul, religious, scientific, or otherwise, can be carved up and somehow made digital. Even if possible, how did the Scientist make that work?

Furthermore, we're supposed to empathize for...something...in this movie aren't we? A nameless totalitarian state builds machines for war, they revolt, and mankind is wiped out. How can this have a happy ending? So somehow the robot/soul things trigger rain filled with microbes. Yay, microbes! So what? Why are we supposed to be excited about microbes? Mankind is still wiped out!

I get the distinct impression that the script was written organically, with the writer throwing whatever seemed cool or deep onto the page hoping to fill an hour and 15 minutes, without particular thought about the big picture.

This movie has about as much deep meaning as Avatar.

you don't understand the importance of the rain? No wonder you didn't get this movie. Pay more attention in school before it's too late.

Ok, please explain why I should care about the rain.

While the story is magically comprehensible till the ending, the ending leave much to desire for me.

I can accept that a scientist with an amulet was able to transfer his spirit into the dolls. And I can accept that the same device can be used by the machine to store the dolls' soul.

But how can the spirit of five dolls create organic molecules? Or is just the water imbued with the souls of the five?

The ending in itself made little sense to me.
