Agh! Horrible accent.....

I've just seen a clip and Elizabeth Moss's accent is bad. Very bad. So bad, in fact, that it distracts from the dialogue and character interaction. I think she is talented and have enjoyed her other work, but why would they pick her for this when there are so many wonderful British actresses. I'm just not sure how directors let this happen.
I hope it doesn't negatively affect the overall success of the film. :-(
Has anyone else seen/heard and have any thoughts?

Nothing wrong with her accent in this. Her religious choices, on the other hand...

Moss' accent in High Rise really is bad. And that's a shame, since her Kiwi accent in Top of the Lake was spot-on.

The first time I watched "The Wire" I definitely noticed screw-ups with Idris Elba/Dominic West's American accents... Fortunately for me, I'm able to indulge myself in the fiction regardless, rather than doing the opposite and ranting about it on the internet.

For the record, I hate Moss as an actor... based on Mad Men and her endeavors since then, it seems the only roll she can play convincingly is the shy, slightly unattractive, intelligent, duplicitous, subservient type who is looking for a chance to claw her way to success... but like you said, she doesn't really work in this role

This x 1,000,000.

Dominic West's accent is hot garbage, so is Simon Baker's, so is David Morrisey's, and so is Aiden Gillen's.

The British film industry is so thin their actors fight desperately for parts in US television and movies. They're at peak saturation in our market. AND THEY SURE AS HELL AREN'T ALL HUGH LAURIE when it comes to speaking our way.

*beep* Superman is played by a Brit right now. Do you have any idea how much of an immature temper tantrum that island would throw if James Bond was played by an American? Lazenby, who played a perfectly suitable Bond, was SAVAGED by the British press because they're like a kid with their toys over there.

So the door swings back on the very, very rare occasion that it does, and without fail there will be someone to whine about it. I'm surprised Moss wasn't trampled to death by 500 British actresses heading here to fight over the role of a valley girl in a CW show.

I notice bad (fake) British accents come from actors who seem to want to go with a higher pitched tone in their voice. If she had had an accent with her normal speaking tone, I doubt we'd have noticed it.

The OP just wanted the director to hire only English actors. BFD.
