Agh! Horrible accent.....

I've just seen a clip and Elizabeth Moss's accent is bad. Very bad. So bad, in fact, that it distracts from the dialogue and character interaction. I think she is talented and have enjoyed her other work, but why would they pick her for this when there are so many wonderful British actresses. I'm just not sure how directors let this happen.
I hope it doesn't negatively affect the overall success of the film. :-(
Has anyone else seen/heard and have any thoughts?

I've read some reviews from professionals/reactions from general audiences and none of them commented about her accent being fake or even said anything about accents overall. They said all the actors did a great job. So either her accent gets better throughout the film or maybe it's just you..?

reply

I've seen only a couple comments in reviews that her accent is not really good.

Her accent isn't amazing but, I certainly wouldn't say it's so so bad, just kind of meh...

i think you're over worrying, i've seen the film and she's fine and offers a contrast to Luke Evans booming welsh tones. And, as a Brit i thought it was ok.

reply

I'd rather they just replace all the non-Americans in the movie. I'm tired of seeing feminine european actors in american movies, frankly.

reply

it's not an american movie - idiot 

reply

Then I care even less about it.

reply

Then you are a xenophobic idiot. Actually I think the noun is redundant there.

reply

Completely agree Fantastic. As an American myself, only wanting to watch American actors is the most ridiculous statement I've heard. I would think talent would be the top reason for liking or disliking a film. Not all Americans are Trump supporters. :D

reply

It is based on a book set in England, written by an English author.

reply

The same way they continue to hire Sam Worthington as an American.

There are plenty of those too.

Hmm, iced tea. How very musical theater of you.

reply

Here's my thought for you, if only as kind of an FYI. Complaining about an actor's accent stopped being cool about three years ago. Just sayin'.

Unless, of course, it's a reference to Costner as Robin Hood. Then it's still righteous.

reply

Saw the film, her accent was spot on. A few minor wobbles but mostly pretty good.

reply

I'll concur with this. I usually notice quite quickly if an English or American accent is really off. I thought Elizabeth Moss did a good job. Maybe a couple of tiny slips but generally good.

Anyway she's a talented actor and I think she was great casting for the role.

reply

I'm English and thought she did a good job - at the start I listened out for inconsistencies because I know she's American, but after the party scene I forgot and nothing jumped out at me.
