In addition to SUE BLUE living with a MAN who IGNORES her for the most part, we also have the life of NIKI which is a MIRROR IMAGE.

Because NIKI also lives with a man who IGNORES her ...

as we see by the way in which he SPIES on her from the TOP of the STAIRS ...

when her AGENT GREG calls to let her know she's GOTTEN the PART in KINGSLEY'S BLUE VERSION of the AXXON N TALE.

But whereas we see her other girl friends who are HAPPY and delighted for her, and even the BUTLER or SERVANT who also kicks up his HEELS to express JOY that she's gotten the PART in the film, we see NO INDICATION whatsoever that her husband shares the same kind of feelings.

If anything he seems to RESENT the part she's gotten which is also revealed to us in this scene between him and NIKI'S CO STAR in the film:

In other words, like the MAN IN THE GREEN COAT ...
this is also a JEALOUS MATE who IGNORES his wife and then RESENTS having another man pay ATTENTION to her.

When NIKI goes to be interviewed on the MARILYN LEVENS SHOW, once again we see no sign or indication that the HUSBAND is there to SUPPORT her the way in which we see DEVON surrounded by other members of his ENTOURAGE.

So whereas PIOTREK pays LIP SERVICE to the VOWS he's taken (to LOVE/HONOR/CHERISH his wife), we also see NO INDICATION WHATSOEVER that this is the case.

And all we see is his JEALOUSY of another man who will be her CO STAR in the film she's gotten a ROLE in.

And it is this OBSESSIVE JEALOUSY and the way in which they are IGNORED by their MATES
that makes both DERN and LOST GIRL WOMEN IN TROUBLE.

In other words, if anyone should have reason to FEEL GUILTY it would also be THE MALES who IGNORE the WOMEN in their lives and then EXPECT these women to remain FAITHFUL to them.

But the WOMEN are HUMAN beings who long for the company of another HUMAN BEING who doesn't make her feel as if she's INVISIBLE] to them.

So they also become VULNERABLE to the ATTENTION that gets paid to them by the 2 FACED WOLF in this TALE ...

who LIES to them ...

and tells them he's

NEVER KNOWN ANYONE LIKE THEM BEFORE

as a way that he can GET INSIDE of them and have HIS WAY with them ...

before he DUMPS them and moves on along to his NEXT PREY.

And this is when the TROUBLE BEGINS for the WOMAN who feels even MORE BLUE than she felt before she meets the 2 FACED WOLF ...

because she also ends up HOMELESS and with NO WAY to PAY HER RENT.

But the woman herself dies.

And there's also the problem of how the STABBING takes place in the 2000 TIME FRAME, whereas SUE BLUE and the wife of BILLY SIDE belong to the 1960 TIME FRAME.

Thus the reason why this must also be the WIFE of KIDDO or SUE BLUE'S SISTER who STABS her on the WALK of FAME???



THE TIME PROBLEM is SOLVED if we also assume the ACTRESS who plays the part of BILLY'S WIFE also gets

she's probably also still STUCK in the CHARACTER of being DORIS ...

what probably happens is the ACTRESS who plays the part of DORIS MURDERS DERN in KINGSLEY'S VERSION of the AXXON N PLAY,

because she also gets so confused that she thinks DERN sleeps with her husband???

That also helps to explain the other scene that we see of her with THE DETECTIVE at the beginning of IE where

And in the BLUE BEDROOM SCENE we also have DEVON who is STUCK in CHARACTER as BILLY SIDE.

So we have 2 WOMEN in TWIN COPIES of a marriage where they both FEEL INVISIBLE to the MEN in their lives.

And we also have a WOMAN who wants to SAVE MONEY for the BABY she says is on the way, and a SELFISH NARCISSISTIC JERK who would rather DRINK BETTER BEER that doesn't TASTE LIKE PISS.

Then we also see the way he IGNORES the REQUEST to SAVE MONEY when he has the HOT DOG PARTY in the BACK YARD ...

where he also REVEALS his plans to ABANDON HER and the BABY that's on the way ...

when he tells her about his PLANS to RUN AWAY and JOIN THE CIRCUS.

Then we also see AN IMAGE of LOST GIRL appear on the WHITE T SHIRT and see her PRAYING and saying:

And some may also try to say this was evidence that she is dreaming ...

but more likely what it means is she's PRAYS to have a MISCARRIAGE ...

because at this point she also REALIZES HOW WRONG she's been to get involved with this CRUEL and SELFISH MAN who has NO INTENTION of taking RESPONSIBILITY for SUPPORTING her or the CHILD that is on the way.

The "unpaid bill", of course, doesn´t refer to the rent she owed to her landlord, exclusively. And, as Miller points out, her guilt isn´t strictly adultery-related, but has to do with the tragedies this adultery eventually led to.

If you don't see it that way fine, but imo, that's definitely what the EVIDENCE we find in the STORY is telling us.

BACK to the WOMAN in TROUBLE:

Look at her face. It's not just Bruised from being BEATEN. It's also DIRTY from not being washed because she's HOMELESS like those other 3 people who sit there and watch her DIE without calling 911 or for an AMBULANCE to come get her.

She's definitely a HOMELESS BUM on the WALK of FAME.

And at this point, she's probably also a DRUG ADDICT as well.

We also know this from seeing the other girls doing drugs and turning TRICKS to get money for them.

So most likely they've also turned DERN ONTO DRUGS as well and that's also the reason why we see her HEAD FALLING BACKWARDS as she LOOKS UP to see the other TWIN COPY of herself LOOKING DOWN at herself in the scene where they say from now on she'd be DREAMING in a KIND of SLEEP.

SHE'S HIGH.

As in OH HIGN in BLUE TOMORROW.

We also hear the girls saying it would be BETTER TONIGHT (when they could turn some tricks to get the DRUGS to CHASE AWAY The BLUES).

We also know they all have the BLUES due to the way we hear them saying how they thought HE was THE ONE.

And the girls are probably also PLAYING the AXXON N RECORD at the other time, when they take DERN through the MAGIC WINDOW to SNOWY POLAND, which is probably also why we see THE FACE of LOST GIRL as she explains how to BURN the HOLE in the SILK and LOOK THROUGH IT.

So as DERN GETS HIGH she also takes a TRIP THROUGH the HOLE into the WONDERLAND of POLAND.

And eventually those TRIPS she takes probably also take their TOLL and reach the point where she no longer knows where she's at anymore.

Which also helps to explain the reason why she IMAGINES she sees DORIS (THE GHOST of LOVE) CHASING her on the WALK OF FAME before she STABS her in the GUT with the SCREW DRIVER.

The scene in LOST HWY where we see the dismembered body also appears to be based upon the BRUTAL MURDER of Elizabeth Short.

The ALTO NIDO is also Joe Gillis's apartment building in the opening scenes of Sunset Blvd.. Lynch shot the scene in front of the same building...it's still there today on the corner of Franklin and Ivar. Doris is shown walking down Ivar in the direction of Hollywood Blvd, which is two blocks away. It's from the direction of Ivar that Doris approaches Sue...

Here's something else too. The lot Joe Gillis parks his car is right next to Avalon, the place where Lynch filmed the exterior "waiting line" scene and the interior club scenes in IE. You can see the club as Gillis pulls his car out onto Vine. The place is still a parking lot today...amazing how some locations do not change.

Doris is shown walking down Ivar in the direction of Hollywood Blvd, which is two blocks away. It's from the direction of Ivar that Doris approaches Sue...

Here's something else too. The lot Joe Gillis parks his car is right next to Avalon, the place where Lynch filmed the exterior "waiting line" scene and the interior club scenes in IE. You can see the club as Gillis pulls his car out onto Vine. The place is still a parking lot today...amazing how some locations do not change.

The savagery of the crime, which Hayward did admit to his wife briefly, does not seem to have been addressed in a way that might prompt hard thinking about who would do such a thing.

Even later, a fully justifiable question is asked of Ben Horne, concerning Audrey (trouble at home?), that seems never to have been asked of the Palmers; the comment about the knife came in response to a question about Maddy Ferguson and was used to shove Cooper off balance, the interrogators not having mentioned methods; even the seemingly thorough and unsentimental Albert Rosenfield mentions the animal marks, but not the presumably major knife wounds or any assessment of the size of a knife. Et cetera.

Part of the story is in these differences and omissions and really, whether we're aware of them or not I think explain the continuing fascination of the story.

So whereas the postmortem exam is botched up in TWIN PEAKS, in IE we never even get one for DERN or for any of the other DEAD BODIES that we see in MTTH (MUSTASH MAN, DEVON, the DORIS SIDE look alike).

We see what looks like HAMMER MARKS on the forehead of the MUSTASH MAN, and we see the INTENSTINE STICKING OUT of DEVON and the DORIS look a like, and the pools of blood in which they lay, but that's it.

My guess is that the Jack Nicholson connection being referenced is the fact that in 1977, Roman Polanski was charged with rape of a 13 year old girl. This event happened in Jack Nicholson's house, on Mulholland Dr.

FWIW, David Lynch was one of the few who recently showed open and public support for the charges against Polanski being dropped after all these years so he could be allowed to come back to the USA.

sometimes I think some Lynch fans want to be as cryptic as Lynch sort of the emerging artist in us all, but obviously it doesn't work so well when you're just trying to talk about the movie among peers. At it's worst it can come off as very condescending. That's not a friendly basis for a blossoming discussion, is it? Sure, sometimes I do not spell out every tiny detail, and every now and then I raise a question in stead of sharing what I know. But, when it comes to explaining what I mean, I never run away.

A long time ago, I wrote a detailed and thorough analysis of this movie; the title of the thread was

"INLAND EMPIRE for dummies".

Some "regulars" did not appreciate this, and they started trolling by off-topic rants which were endless in length and meaningless in content. A little bit of irony won't do any harm and keeps me away from taking it all too seriously, whereas some narrow minded visitors may feel discontented.

Now, if you want a 'fair' discussion about the plot in this movie then try to find some argument why the woman in house 1358 can not be real. Or if you have an educated writing that convinces me that everything is unreal, show it to me.

Your reply to "The end of a dream", was very disappointing and your imitation of "Billy playing dumb" is annoying. You and others rant about Ockham's Razor, but when it comes to applying it in practice ignorance fills the virtual space.

So this is a WOMAN IN TROUBLE for not being able to PAY THE RENT ...

which means she ends up A HOMELESS BUM ...

on the streets of HOLLYWOOD.

And The MAIN TROUBLE she's in isn't directly due to the Adultry ... which she also sees as BEING NO BIG DEAL.

And she's also not IN TROUBLE for killing someone, because she'd also be IN JAIL if she'd BEEN CAUGHT doing that.

So the TROUBLE is the way she DOES DRUGS to CHASE AWAY the BLUES.

And doing DRUGS is probably also what leads to her SEEING THINGS that aren't REALLY there ...

like seeing DORIS HIDE behind the TREE ...

yet NONE of the other GIRLS she's with can see Doris there.

If anyone has ever seen a film called TRAIN SPOTTING, you'll also be familiar with the KIND of effect DRUGS can have on your mind.

In that film, for example, after the people doing drugs forget about a BABY in a crib who DIES from their NEGLECT of it, then one of the drug abusers also has a HALLUCINATION where he IMAGINES seeing the DEAD INFANT CRAWLING across the top of the CEILING over his bed.

This is probably also the same kind of thing that is wrong with this WOMAN in TROUBLE.

DERN probably also IMAGINES and sees things that are not really there ...

like IMAGINING she sees DORIS SIDE BEHIND the TREE on the WALK of FAME.

So this would be the KIND of TROUBLE she's in.

She's LOST HER MIND ... or her GRIP on REALITY ...

the same way as BETTY/D did in MD ... when she also IMAGINES she sees RITA/C standing in the KITCHEN ... and then IMAGINES she sees her again on the COUCH ... when RITA is NOT REALLY there.

At that time when BETTY sees IMAGINARY RITA she's A WOMAN in TROUBLE.

At the time when DERN sees IMAGINARY DORIS she's also a WOMAN in TROUBLE.

And MR. K saying HE LIKES PANCAKES also doesn't seem to be something that HELPS her either.

Good point about the other movie called FEAR and LOATHING in LAS VEGAS being still another example of what DRUG USE can do to you EL. That scene where he checks into the HOTEL and sees the PATTERNS moving on the CARPET was AWESOME.

So what happens to the SON this Woman mentions who DIES?

HOW DOES HE DIE?

Because we also see a TOY sitting OUTSIDE there in the YARD during the HOT DOG PARTY.

Anyhow, STILL ANOTHER QUESTION to ASK is this:

IS this WOMAN REALLY A WHORE ...
