Annoyance with switch-body+ugly-to-beautiful films

My God. How many "switch body 'attempted feel good'" lame ass movies do they have to create and shove down our throats until people realise the concept is dead and gone... LET IT REST IN PEACE!

It really seems as if film writers are running out of ideas.

I mean the "ugly-to-beautiful" transformation flick concept has been used so much it's ink needs to be replaced.
"My God, she's an ugly nerd but wahey, pluck the eyebrows, apply the lipstick, it's amazing. She turned out to be a babe miraculously. Who would've thought."
Anne Hathaway has gone on a killing spree with this plot concept. Princess Diaries + Devil wears Prada just to name two. I really think there's some director or producer out there who just really wants so much to convince the international audience that Anne is attractive.
Leave us alone. We'll make up our own minds!

"Movie ugly" is ridiculous. Some obviously very attractive woman goes unnoticed, until voila! She takes off her glasses and lets down her hair, and she's gorgeous! Who would have expected that?!

reply

It's so ridiculous how she is deemed to be "fat" by Meryl Streep's character. Seriously, if a woman weighs more than ninety lbs, she's FAT?

This movie is hinting at the exaggerated idea of weight and thinness in the modeling industry. That’s kind of the point.

reply

Oh I do get the point about the exaggeration of having to be stick thin. But it stills annoys me!

By those standards many of the beautiful, curvy actresses from the forties and fifties would be considered fat.

I work part time in a restaurant and a lot of our customers have to squeeze into the booths. They complain that the booths are “too small”. Now that’s fat!! ha

The cheapest and stupidest trope I've heard of is how, all you gotta do to make the girl "pretty" is to remove her glasses and let her hair down.

It's lame, because even with the nerd getup, sharp-eyed viewers can tell the actress is already very beautiful and well-built under the sloppy, ugly clothes, the costume and makeup departments just tried to "ugly her up" for part of the movie, depending on what story it is.
