I don't think Moartea Domnului Lazarescu could be considered one of the best romanian movies. There are too many romanian movies which are far better than Moartea Domnului Lazarescu. A list of the greatest romanian movies should include in my opinion:

I haven't seen any other Romanian films, but this one ranks as one of the most courageous foreign films I've ever seen.

Best after '89: "Restul e tacere" ... first to come close in terms of general film quality to the level of above mentioned ones

For me, California Dreamin' is definitely the best Romanian movie, closely followed by Filantropica, 4 Luni, 3 Saptamani si 2 Zile and Balanta. I also enjoyed a lot Nemescu's other movie, Marilena de la P7.
