Is this a joke?

For all the years I've used this site, I've always thought IMDB ratings were a pretty good pinpointer of deeming whether a movie was worth a watch. Anything above 7 has always been pretty good.

But with this movie.. I'm wondering if the movie was a cold parody of the ignorant's man world view of violence.

Or if the majority here are really making some sort of big practical joke, pretending to praise this movie.

I know it's silly of me to come here and say these things. I'm well aware that I probably get nothing constructive out of saying this, but it's been a long time since I've been so surprised, so I felt like sharing it.

If you read this far, and you seriously like this movie.. then tell me, what did you enjoy about this movie? I know I'm probably in for a troll roll, but I'd gladly give it a try.

That movie was a waste of time. I really enjoy D.W, I've seen all of his movies but this one was an unaxceptable choice from his side.

I really liked this movie.

I enjoy watching action movies, but this one I enjoyed more than usual. Here are some reasons for that:

a. I liked the soundtrack
b. I liked the acting from both Denzel W. and Marton C.
c. I liked the good old action hero destroying every enemy without a good guy dying or himself having any major losses.

Maybe the fact that I was in a good mood watching it with a friend influenced my experience - I actually think that if I watched it alone on a rainy Monday I would have a different experience. However, my point is that it is a nice 'turn-off-your-brain-and-watch-some-good-guy-wins' action movie.

We actually laughed at the movie in the end. Denzel played a real stand-up-good-guy, and these types of people (heroes) make me happy.

I praise the movie, I am not joking, it is no parody. I rated it 8 because I was entertained. Simple as that.

An advice from me to all of you. Check always total voters page. As you can see, under 18 age gave 8 to this movie. So i agree with you. Danzel saved movie but its a trash!

Haven't yet watch the movie, but I came here to tell you this: NEVER. TRUST. IMDB. RATINGS.

I want to write a few things here.
First, the IMDb score is formed by fans and as such it always has to be taken with a grain of salt. 'Twilight' had a similar rating before the haters attacked it. 'The Dark Knight Rises' is in Top 250, and it is, from a purely objective point of view, awfully written and badly directed.

That being said, it is a useful tool if you know how to use it. This movie is a very good example. There is no doubt that its rating is very high and that is not surprising. Not only 'The Equalizer' is an excellent action movie but it also stands out in the genre over the last few years. As you definitely know, most action movies nowadays are frenetically paced. 'The Equalizer' is not - quite the opposite, actually, its pacing is quite slow. Most action movies nowadays feel sanitized when it comes to violence, while 'The Equalizer' is one of the most brutal movies this year. Even R-rated action movies recently rarely have much swearing, and 'The Equalizer' does. 20 years ago, when movies like this were being made very often, it would not get this much attention. Nowadays movies like this are a rarity, which is why people value them more than before.

The action scenes are nothing short of excellent and the main character is just... cool. The common viewer can very easily connect with him. The same thing made 'Taken' so successful. Also, unlike Nolan's superhero movies, 'The Equalizer' feels like its creators knew exactly what they were doing - an entertaining movie with no pretensions to be anything else. And this is refreshing, actually - to see a dark and brutal movie that is not trying to be deeply philosophical.

Morons like you should never watch a movie because you would start getting all serious about the meaning of the movie.

Can't you sit back, grab some popcorn/coke or whatever, watch the movie and shut up?

A great movie is not one without flaws, but one that grabs you by the throat and tells you what I just told you. There, an awesome "philosophizing" comment.

Yes, you're a troll.

People who watch these types of movies have a deep seated desire to be super heroes. They live vicariously through these movies.
