Far too underrated

This film is beautiful and for it to receive a Razzie is a slap in the face to the fantasy genre. I don't remember when this was released, but from what I hear it was touted as a horror film, which I don't get.

This reminds me of that much hated film: Ishtar - Considered a terrible embarrassment to American cinema, but when I first watched it in my early teens, I was on the floor laughing and it remains to date one of my favorite films. I just don't think people got the point of Ishtar, and I don't think people get the point of Lady in the Water.

Film critics are a vile bunch--they have the same mentality as the mobs of the French Revolution or a lynch mob. If Lady In The Water were made by someone else, it probably would have been nominated for an Emmy. But because it was made by someone that the intelligentsia had arbitrarily deemed uncool, it was lambasted as a horrible movie.

Blaming critics is silly. Critics aren't the only ones who hated Lady in the Water. Most non critics hated it as well, most see it as an embarrassing failure.

you can't be serious

i've seen thousands of movies and this will always stick out as one of the worst

The movie is the closest Shyamalan ever came to a masterpiece (and it's pretty damn close indeed!)

It's not a mainstream movie, even if it certainly takes inspiration from movies such as E.T. and The Princess Bride.

The movie is kind of what you would get if you were to mix Spielberg and Godard or Fellini.

that'll be the day

Nope, terrible. If your movie is an attempt at being serious and it has "narf" this many times in it, it is moronically bad. Enjoy reality!

I agree; I think its insanely underrated, and while it has flaws, it has a magical quality to it that really makes it worth viewing. Paul Giamatti was really amazing in this film (his speech at the end when he brings Story back to life was done with a lot of passion, and it almost had me in tears). I admit its not a perfect film, but its far better than most would have you belive, and far and away above Shayamalan's later works.
