I always felt the title was misleading.

The team never seemed super intelligent to me and usually did nothing more than most viewers would do in terms of the thought process involved to work out who was commiting the crimes.

The I.T member of the team did nothing more than random Google searches on people.

More often than not the arrests came from chases and gun fights.

I think the title just refers to the fact that the BAU gets into the minds of the criminals. They put themselves in their place to understand what motivates them and how to catch them.

I read a comment by one of the real BAU guys who said that their job is to get into the criminal’s mind as quickly as possible. And when the case is solved, to get OUT as fast as you can.

But I do agree about the car chases and gun fights. I don’t think that is part of the job of the real BAU. But it is television. And people want to see “action” which includes squealing tires and shootouts. But I don’t.😩 I much prefer the scenes where they are talking and figuring out the criminal mind.

I think a lot of the chases and gun play was to give Shemar Moore something to do, he always seemed the odd man out in the team. His character was usually assigned the physical stuff.

Never liked the IT woman (Baby girl as Shemar's character called her) she didn't do much more than the average person could do with Google search.

In the original series' finale during the plane part Rossi couldn't hit a target just a few feet away and then blonde chick blows up an entire aircraft to get one man. Not particularly smart.

I like action as well but to me this series and the BAU isn't meant to be about that.

You didn’t like Penelope Garcia? I thought she was an interesting character even with all her quirks. The way she dressed made me think that she had just escaped from a circus. Emmett Kelly should have had such a colorful wardrobe😁

But if you think “the average person “ could do what she did with a Google search, you have not seen me on a computer!! I don’t even know what Garcia is talking about half the time.

The character whose role confused me was J.J. I liked her but at first she was called their team’s press liaison. But then they started calling her a Special Agent and she carried a gun.

Did she get a promotion or was she a Special Agent all along? Why does someone whose job is to talk to the press have to carry a gun and get involved in shooting incidents like she did?

The thing I find with quirky characters like Garcia and Abby on NCIS is they get old quickly and don't evolve. There was an ep with Garcia getting very upset about a criminal getting the death penalty. With all the things she has seen she still feels sympathy for these people? I found that ep to be hard to watch. And yes the way she dressed was funny for all the wrong reasons.

I was exaggerating a little but a lot of the time Garcia is checking memberships for golf clubs and whatever to try and narrow down the personality type they think they are looking for. I'm not very tech savvy either.

With JJ it seems they realized they narrowed her role too much and wanted more screen time for her. Otherwise she probably wouldn't have been seen very much. Not every case would garner media attention. Speaking of why she carried a gun, didn't they regularly go in with SWAT teams? That never made sense to me, I would think the SWAT team would see them as getting in the way. I know it's TV and makes it more exciting.

I don’t recall the episode with Garcia getting upset about a criminal getting the death penalty. I probably saw the episode, just do not recall it.

I can sort of understand her being upset. She was always a very sensitive person. Any death upset her tremendously. However, as you said, how can she feel sympathy for some of these killers and their horrific deeds?

For myself, I am a bit of a hypocrite on the subject of capital punishment. Whenever a movie has a character going “to the chair”, I find it hard to watch. I usually fast forward the scene even though it is fiction.

Yet, I totally agree with it in cases like Ted Bundy. He deserved every volt they shot through his body.

I agree with the concept, yet I could never attend an execution.
