There are two versions of this movie! Which one is your fave?

I had only seen the "first" version back when it came out...If you want to know the differences and have not seen both versions here they are: SPOILER ALERT:

1. In one of them, he is scaling the ledge outside only to realize there are no other windows-nothing but brick!!
2. The "other" version he is up in the air vents and actually SPEAKS to Kevin O'Malley! (the first victim of 1408 who slashed his throat and tried to sew it back together) and he (Kevin) says: HELP ME!!-In the shorter version he is only seen crawling after Mike for a second and they never reveal who this dusty old corpse (ghost) is....
3, There are more flashbacks in this version...an extra flashback with Mikes Dad while Mike is looking down from the Vent
4. Most importantly--there was a completely different ending!!! Mike is NOT pulled out of the room. He dies inside and they show his funeral...also Olin goes to his funeral and for a moment we see the charred remains of Mike in his rear view mirror...Spooky!!! Also--They pan up to the gutted out remains of 1408 and show an Intact ghost of Mike as he fades out of sight....

If you HAVE seen both versions---Which one is your favorite? I have to be honest..I loved the Kevin O'Malley part in the vents...However, I liked the other version better....Not because he gets out alive...I just thought it was spookier and good the way it was....

I like prefer the original ending. I was watching it today and was like, "WTF?" I do like the flashbacks with his dad. Fleshed Mike out more.

the original theatrical ending is better

i like open endings mostly because not everything in life has an ending, some things are never quite solved or finished

with the theatrical ending the viewer is always left with that "what if?" feeling and it's unsettling...i like it

the dvd version is your typical Hollywood ending (and i actually find it to be a happier ending although we are sure that he is dead, he reunites with his daughter and he seems to accept it. Did not like that ending as much

DC has better vents
TC has better ending

I really like the directors cut a lot... it is one of those examples of where the cut stuff really does add tension and in some places out right send shivers down my spine... I don't know why I fell for the dvd release when I first saw it, still like it and all, but the directors cut makes it a masterpiece in my opinion on par with the shining.

I liked the director's cut best. Especially the ending.

I prefer the theatrical cut, but I agree that the vents scene is more effective in the DC.
