The rating is a travesty..

I'm really surprised at the rating..This is one of my favourite films..It's much much better than the horror/thrillers that have come out over the past few years. This is one creepy ass film.

Agreed. I watched this movie some 3-4 years back. Back then, it scared the *beep* outta me!! Its... creatively scary; makes u use your imagination.
When I saw the ratings on IMDB, that made me want to watch the movie again to try to understand why it is underrated.. But i'm sure I will like it this time too :)

I would say it deserves 7.5/10 (Y)

you shouldn't be surprised. i rated this a 1, because i could not find one single redeemable feature in it. it failed in every single aspect as a psychological horror, and almost every aspect as a horror film. it is literally the poorest film i have ever seen, ever, and i watch bad films for fun.

i've said it before, and i'll say it again, but the secret to horror is immersion, and this movie breaks it every five minutes without fail. a lesser person than i would've put their fist through their monitor in a fury that they'd wasted two hours of their life on this.... there aren't even words for what this is, tbh.

like the whole transformers thing? that's one thing, that's *meant* to be bad to amuse idiots. i guess maybe this was, too? in which case i can see why you'd give it anything over a 3.

Like what one of the comments said: different stroke for different folks. Not everyone is going to like the same film but to give this movie a miserable "1" is utterly ridiculous. Even if I were to be absolutely critical about its plot elements, I would still give the technical aspects of the film merit where it's due. And purely out of fairness.

Personally enjoyed the film. Having to continually question the reality of the situation and sanity of the character made it an unnerving experience. And the growing sense of the room enclosing in on him was excellently paced. IMO it was pretty immersive, to witness as the room slowly up the ante on the character and test his sanity. The room truly felt like a living, breathing antagonist. Not an easy feat to pull.

Compared to most psychological horror films released recently, I felt this 1408 delivered.

If you want a bad horror film, just look at the 2006 remake of "when a stranger calls". THAT'S what a bad film looks like.

Giving it a 1 is a joke, but honestly not more than a 5.
The movie is insanely boring and has nothing but cheap spooks at best which most of them were bad.

The fact is, there wasn't any plot what so ever. Just one guy, going into a hotel and starts having freaky meanigless visions till he burns the place down - which we already know since there is that stupid "burn me" written down.

Comparing this to the shining (either version), at least there we see some form of a plot, some development as for why things happen and a general sense of what's going on.

This movie? Nothing. He just walks in and goes completely nuts.
Boring, pointless, stupid and hardly scary.

I say people who give it a 1 should be locked up in Room 1408. This film is a classic. Less reliance on gore, more suspense and a really good performance from Cusack who again makes a jerk sympathetic. Plus, there is Samuel L. Jackson. What the hell can go wrong???

It's confirmed. You're an idiot.

The fact that you can't manage to maintain a "suspension of disbelief" for a period of one hundred and four minutes is of little concern to me. Some people are witless.

Though, I am wondering to whom you might have "said it before" and why it is they wouldn't have snatched up this little secret of horror movie magic and ran off to start their own immersive "horror" empire; as if there were a definition of horror to begin with.

I don't mind that others may not appreciate this movie as I have, but you've convoluted yourself into believing that this might be an I.Q. test. In that case, it's unfortunate then that you've given it a 1.

6.8 for a horror film on IMDB is VERY high.

I agree that the rating should be at least 7.3 or so. This film will stand the test of time, it has enough meat for some firm analysis, and it's by far one of the better Stephen King adaptations, and probably the best film adaptation of a King short story.

I rated it 7 .but I was thinking to give it 6 , so 6.8 is good rating I quess.
Beginning was awesome , tense, scary , promising ,but when the real ''horrors'' started I was kinda disappointed and I thought it took too long , I think there was too much same stuff happening there so it became not scary later but kinda borring, also I didn't like ending

Agreed. It's probably one of the best horror films of our time. It should be rated much higher.

If you love someone, set them free. If they come back, nobody else wanted them either.

reply

Agreed. This is simply one of the best horror-thriller films that I have watched and I have seen the whole lot of 'em. 9/10 for sure.

reply

I gave it a two. I was bored out of my mind. Also wasn't scared in the slightest not even for a second. Had to change the channel for moments, not even sure if I saw the ending. I seriously cannot believe the high rating and even more so the comments of people here praising the movie so much... makes me think maybe I should watch it again, but I don't know if I'd manage lol.
