One of my favorite movies (if not my favorite) in terms of ease of enjoyment. You simply can't beat Across the Universe for a feel-good-but-not-overly-cheesy musical choice. Yeah, it's not the kind of things critics go for, but it's one of those movies that's just fun to watch, especially for Beatles fans.
I rather liked Baines. We shared the same bootmaker.

OMG, don't you feel sorry for people who don't get it? What a loss for them.
An amazing piece of visual, audial and emotional art. A socio-political statement about so many things that effect people on so many levels, especially today, wrapped up as engrossing, enlightening entertainment. That's the best!

I saw this movie 3 times in the theaters (I kept bringing friends/family). I now own it, and watch it regularly. I think it's beautiful, creative, uplifting, and challenging all at the same time.
I know Julie Taymor is having a boatload of troubles these days, but I think she did an amazing job with Across The Universe. When I watch the interview and shots of her working in the special features section, I am blown away by her talent and dedication.
So much talent here, cast, creative folks, musicians - and such a great film!
