Wait until I blow your mind and tell you... even if the ratings were poor, which they are not, it wouldn't actually matter very much. Because the BBC isn't a commercial enterprise. It doesn't conduct itself like American network TV. It's a public service broadcaster with particular rules governing its broadcasting policies enshrined in its Royal Charter. And ratings aren't necessarily a part of those policies.
While it takes ratings into account, they are far from the be-all and end-all. AI scores are of at least equal importance, along with many other factors.
Doctor Who is doing just fine in the UK.
