sharePointless.Outside of the last 3 years having been a bad dream i can't see any way to fix this train wreck that would bring me back.Woke pandering and Chibnall's terrible retconning have put the show on life support.Just pull the plug already.
shareNot sure he'll make a difference. The politics behind the BBC are still in place. It's not like they're gonna let RTD just go back to making the show how he used to. It's a good stunt though. I'll certainly be tuning in to see what he does with it.
shareI don't think RTD should make the show he used to and that's one of my concerns. Admittingly I always preferred Moffat who to me brought some much needed magic and actually used time travel as a concept. RTD often used soap opera drama too much and sometimes things could be a bit too silly but he brought the show back and made it what it is today.
However nostalgia doesn't sell on its own and I hope he can bring enough new stuff to the table. Eccleston's/Tennant's era ended ages ago and while I don't mind some callbacks the show is always about change which is why his return has shocked and somewhat worried me.
However as I've seen others pointing out, he's very relevant and had some well loved shows, and had probably changed and matured as a writer.
Until I saw the return of Leverage being pretty much as good as the first time around, and the pretty darn promising footage of Dexter's return, I never believed a returning showrunner could recapture the magic. But hey, these are crazy times. I'm gonna be optimistic.
shareAnd to think it could've been J. Michael Straczynski, of Babylon 5. He would've injected Doctor Who with some CLASS.
I did not know that JMS was optioned for Who. Wow. That would have brought me back for sure.
shareDefinitely.
shareHe publically petitioned for the job. I assume RTD has been in place for awhile though so he was probably asking for a job already taken. Maybe we can get him as a writer, though.
shareFUCKING AWESOME NEWS!!!
This has seriously made my day.
Canโt wait to see what he comes up with.

This is awesome news, I guess. I was ready for a change when Davies left the first time but the Moffat era of Who was really disappointing for me. I quit a couple of years before Chibnall took over. Any recommendations that I should give the Chibnall era a try? The 3rd and 7th Doctors are my favorites.
shareSo I don't doubt that some may be unhappy with this choice, and I am hoping that there's not some convoluted story being written to write Rose back into the show, but I think it's for the best that Davies return.
I just hope it's not too late, if I'm being honest.
Yeah the one thing that I hated was the whole half doctor/rose thing.
Moffat once stated you never give the fans what they want, you give them what they need and to me that plot always seemed like RTD listening to the doctor/rose shippers and basically making a convoluted too fairytale like ending that gave them what they wanted.
Also I feel he was great at building up to a finalie but the last part often fell down. He would put the doctor into a corner and then basically have to use a deus ex machina kind of ending to fix it. I remember being surprised at how amazing Torchwood Children of Earth was and for once the ending was great, emotional and dark
