Could this film have been made set in the US?

Could this film have been made (in the US) with it being set in america instead? The white house being blown up at the end of the film, etc?

Would the answer be the same today in 2012 as in 2005 when the film was made?

Could Fight Club have been made in 2002?

Very interested in peoples opinions here...?

I think V for Vendetta could have been set in Texas today.

No.

Because at the time the Graphic Novel was written, it was primarily inspired by Thatcher's Britain. I don't care how many times this has been said, I'll say it again because I hate you and fùcking Americans, who want to claim all the good ideas as their own.

Haha No because its a British story.
Guy Fawkes was British I believe :)

For sure.....it even has a very Rush Limbaugh like character in the obese mouthpiece of the corrupt dictatorship....oh and a false flag op too to scare folks into handing over their rights,

I don't think the white house, or any building in the USA really, would have the same connotation as the buildings destroyed in V for Vendetta, there is simply less history. Also the white house wouldn't be analogous to the final explosion in V.

I think if you're probing American sensitivity about 9/11 then that wouldn't be a serious issue. There are already plenty of films that inspire imagery from the attacks.

Also I think that the timelessness of revolution may have been lost without significant plot changes to accommodate the significance of the 5th of November.

Not this specific story, but in terms of films about a character standing up to a tyrannical totalitarian regime in America, what about The Hunger Games?
