How come it's usually females getting possessed?

How come guys can't share in any of this possession fun?

Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist, The Grudge, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Devil Inside, The Innkeepers, The Unborn, ...and on and on and on.

Well I guess at least The Haunting in Connecticut was a guy….

I don't think anybody in this thread so far has mentioned The Possession of Joel Delaney. It's a movie where a male is possessed but I'd say the few movies where this happens are the exception rather than the majority. As others have said, I think females are seen as more innocent and pure than male. It's also the reason killer kid movies like Children of the Corn, The Bad Seed, Joshua, Who Can Kill A Child, Bloody Birthday, etc. are so popular. We see children as so pure and innocent so it's very shocking when we see them do bad things and it affects us very much emotionally. I also notice that when children and/or animals are killed in a horror film (which isn't very often nowadays) people are tremendously upset. Yet when adult humans (or even teenagers) are killed very few care and even root for the villain to catch up to them. I think in the same way as girls are seen as more innocent or pure, people above the age of 15 I would say are seen as corrupted by the world so therefore they deserve it.

I noticed that "The Possession of Joel Delaney" has been mentioned (novel and film). Actually, isn't that a double possession? I was thinking that the youth who possesses Joel was himself possessed. However, it's been a long time since I've read the novel and seen the film.

However, there is a very old example in novels/films: Miles in the many versions of Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw", including "The Innocents" (1961). Naturally, there are separate interpretations, but the governess believes Miles is under the influence of Quint.

"Possessed" (2000) is based on the exorcism of Robbie Mannheim, which inspired William Peter Blatty to write "The Exorcist", which became the noted horror film.

I'm sure that I could come up with other cases of possession of males. I just have to focus my ADHD brain on this.

EDIT: As soon as I closed, I thought of these:
Deliver Us from Evil (2014)

The First Power (1990)

The Exorcist III (1989)

Several of the "Amityville Horror" movies have possession of males.

I know this is an old post, but Deliver Us From Evil. Great movie too.

Because it's much scarier to see a woman talk in a scary MAN voice, then a man talk in a scary man voice.

Its mostly because women can bear children and often that is what the demon is after.
