The Poorest film in the IMDB top 250

Whilst I agree that I must be in the minority here, I must admit to being baffled at the high rating. I don't recall laughing once.

When I compare the comedies of the last 40 years to this - and I realise how mnay greats this has topped - then I start to worry about the world we live in.

No wonder this planet is doomed - 90% of its inhabitants are idiots! (yes, i'm in the 10%)

John Candy would be spinning in his grave.

HOT FUZZ isn't just a comedy. It has a great story and plot, dramatic moments, action, etc. Not to mention it's edited to darn near perfection. Here's a few that if they are in the top 250, they ought to drop from the list:

*Any James Cameron film that is NOT the original TERMINATOR!

*Any Steven Spielberg film that is NOT JAWS!

*Starting only at 1980, any Oscar-winning Best Picture (Academy actually did a DECENT job picking Best Pics before this!)

*THE DARK KNIGHT! Can't believe this thing is still at 8.9!

Avatar is in the Top 250.
As is Benjamin Button.

Nuff said...:-)

Taste. Not to be argued about. Why would you???

The OP just did not want to feel so alone and was looking for the minority that did not like Hot Fuzz. So, this thread is for them. As I love Hoz Fuzz and generally everything Simon Pegg does (Spaced is fantastic!!!) I´m outta here.

Pub, anybody???

Most people that think like you aren't necessarily idiots, but just don't get the movie. They take it too serious and forget it's a comedy, a parody partly also (the action scenes) and for that reason don't get the high ratings, which it really deserves.

What this movie did was bring something fresh to the audience. Of course you have to be open-minded to even be able to appreciate new and fresh things. Close-minded rusty old farts just don't have the ability to do that.

I understand that you feel ruled out by seeing the high ratings and not understanding why. But you don't have to feel bad about it. It's just not a movie for you, and it doesn't mean it's a movie for idiots either.

Wow, I must admit, it's rare that I see someone online who would go so far as to say that everybody who disagrees with him about the quality of a movie is an idiot. That is quite a claim...

I gave this movie a 10; but I don't think it deserves to be in the top 250. Others that are in there that don't deserve to be (in my opinion - so you probably won't agree):

The Godfather
The Matrix
Forrest Gump
The Shining (1980)
Full Metal Jacket
Gran Torino (though I loved it)
Slumdog Millionare
Avatar
V for Vendetta
Shaun of the Dead (though, again, I loved it)

"If you think I wanna *beep* you, you're crazy."
"Really? Then why do you have a boner?"

I guess you don't pay too much attention.... At least 20 different posters in this thread alone replied in exactly the same tone... If HE didn't understand what a wonderful, thoughtful, incredibly funny and groundbreaking film this was, like THEY did, then he must be some kind of idiot.

While I think the OP was overly rude, I find it hilarious how many people miss the blatant hypocrisy of criticizing/insulting/flaming/demeaning him as being stupid just because he disagrees on the movie's quality with them.

People manage, quite seriously, IN THE SAME POST, to insult him for making generalizations about anybody who disagrees with his opinion... then proceed to explain why anybody who disagrees with THEM obviously just didn't "get it". It's really funny how many people didn't even recognize they were being absolutely just as pretentious and arrogant as he was, while castigating him for being pretentious and arrogant.

If you want to argue his point, fine (many did). If you want to take issue with his "tone", fine (also, many did). When you sink to personal insults merely because he didn't agree with your personal assessment of the film, it becomes a serious case of pot calling the kettle black (many, many, many more did).

Personally, I enjoyed HF. I didn't think it was awesome or wonderful. I thought it was entertaining and funny. In no way do I think it deserves an "8", but to me, very, very, very few films do. I find a lot of films underrated according to my taste, and just as many overrated. I try not to sweat it too much.

As for it belonging in the top 250 films of all time, I agree with the OP. There are other films that don't belong there also, but I'm not getting into that.

I rated it a 6.5.

If you rate it higher, that's your right, your choice, and your TASTE. It doesn't make it any more "correct" than mine, though :)

Cheers!

I agree that it doesn't deserve that high a rating

It was well performed and well written but still..... I can't understand the high score

Do guys like "the thing"?
They like it better than no thing.

John Candy is amazing (although I've only seen Cool Runnings and Planes, Trains and Automobiles). But so is Hot Fuzz.

You know that old saying about that if you have to say you're something, you never were in the first place?
