Other good Australian indies?

I've always thought the Australian film industry was good for these kind of melancholic indie dramas. I'd like to see some more though.

Some I thought of:

The Black Balloon
Beautiful Kate
Somersault
Samson and Delilah
The Loved Ones
Animal Kingdom
Monkey Grip (quite similar to Candy)

I'm Australian myself and I think the understated, mellow style of these films really captures life in Australia quite well. I'd love to see a film set in Brisbane, my home city, I think it has a lot of interesting social aspects. Melborune's always fantastic for a great cinematic feel.

I loved Candy, Wolf Creek, Chopper, and Lantana. There might be at least one more but can't think of it at the moment. I'd say Candy is the best Aussie film though. P.S. I'm from Brisbane too!

I loved Two Hands, it nearly went across to the mainstream though (another one with Heath Ledger). I also liked Jindabyne. One which visits a few major Aussie cities is He Died With A Felafel In His Hand. Clubland is another OK one which nicely captures Aussie suburban life. The Year My Voice Broke is an oldie but a goodie set in period.

Many Aussie movies are big on character portrayals and exploring the big ideas but not so great on plot - this can be frustrating when you get to the end and there's no conclusion!

Edited to add: The Boys, The Hard Word and The Square are other good ones.

Certainly "Look Both Ways" would qualify as a melancholic indie drama. "Last Ride" & "Snowtown" I would also recommend.

Mad Bastards - indigenous film set in the Kimberly region in WA. Also Praise - but it was pretty depressing :(
