Maggie Gyllenhaal ROBBED OF OSCAR NOMINATION

Never before has a performance been as heartbreakingly true to reality as that of Maggie Gyllenhaal's in "Sherrybaby". Sherry's struggle to clean up her life is poignately put on the screen. Gyllenhaal delves deep into this tragic character and I doubt she will ever have as grand a performance again. You can see her living the character to the bone. She never skips a beat. Such as subtle things like gulping the non-alcoholic drink in a red cup when handed to her at her daughters party scene just because she is use to it.

That being said- she was robbed of an Oscar nomination. The 2007 Oscars included all fantastic performances by Actresses. Its hard to disagree with the list. Except that Maggie Gyllenhaal is not included. Infact ANY of the actresses listed that year are of such equal stature that any of them could easily have been replaced by Gyllenhaal (except Helen Mirren). Those that nominate for the Oscars need to start taking it more serious. Otherwise performance gem's like Gyllenhaals in Sherrybaby will go on being unrecognized.

I could not agree more! Maggie portrayed Sherry with so much passion. I couldn't believe she wasn't at least nominated. Quite a shame, because Maggie truly gives a REAL Oscar calibrated performance.

I agree 100%

Absolutely stunning performance from Maggie Gyllenhaal, definitely deserved at LEAST a nomination!

This movie didn't get the recognition it deserved.

I can personally identify with a lot of the events in this movie, and Maggie's portrayal of Sherry was, in my opinion, nothing short of perfect.

One of the most realistic and relatable performances of the decade. Gyllenhaal should have been nominated instead of Streep, Winslet or Cruz from that year's line-up.

Maggie was truly amazing amazing. I think she deserved the nomination for best actress and should have won an Academy Award for this film.

At least she was nominated for best actress by the Golden Globes.

I have seen this movie in the TV and I was impressed, also when I have seen the poster here I have wanted to know more about the movie

Amen!

Let me give you guys a little reality check about Hollywood and the old farts running the Oscars. For those of you who don't know this, you have to pay millions of dollars to the Oscars just to get a nomination. It's not like the board meets and decides what film or actor is truly worthy of winning the prize. That's why a lot of independent films never get nominated. Only if the studio who releases them think they have a chance will put up the money. Much of it is also based on box office draw, which a lot of IF's never get. There's also a lot of "back door" politics that goes on with who actually wins and who doesn't.

It's a corrupt organization like any other. Look at the schmucks who win the Grammys or AMA's. 90% of them have no musical talent and can't even write their own material.

Gyllenhaal's performance was hand-down the best female performance of 2006. Her lack of a nomination is perplexing to say the least.

This is why I do not give credence to any of the mainstream awards, media, rating systems...they lost credibility with me long ago. Too much of the same negative influences, behaving in a corrupted best interest (while in positions of power) , that we see all over today. I did not see all of the movies/star performances talked about at the awards, but I did see Sherrybaby and do feel Maggie was deserving of credit.

I agree that she was robbed.
What excellent acting on her part in this hard to play role.
She made it all so real.

I agree I enjoyed this film - it reminded me of Steve Buscemi's Trees Lounge in the way it was shot - and Maggie's performance was great too.
