Ive seen gory movies like the Saw quadrilogy and love them. Ive also seen others like Captivity and Hostel which i fairly enjoyed. But, August Underground.. I mean come what the hell. It was just sick. I couldnt stomach watching anymore. I turned off after i saw the first victim.
I personally dont know how anyone can enjoy watching anything like this.
It's the lack of understanding as to why people watch these movies that is far scarier than just a movie.

The August Underground trilogy is low budget GOLD, written, filmed and FX all created by the same small film crew, with the intent of SHOCKING, OFFENDING, AND DISGUSTING (they do so successfully). Movies like Saw and Hostel are made by big names with lots of money with the intent of presenting the audience with a story, backed up by some ALRIGHT gore scenes. How could you even compare the two??

It's not about enjoyment. Not all movies are meant to be enjoyable. This movie is meant to be disturbing. Fred Vogel said it himself.

This honestly, wasn't even that bad. They never showed anything. In Saw and Hostel, they actually show someone dying. In this, you just see them walking around like whatever, then it'll cut to them in a scene with a person and then the next scene the dead body and blood or just the person tied up or whatever.
IMO, watching the death is way worse and more disturbing. But I'm not saying this movie wasn't disturbing, the guys were freaks, but I think Saw and Hostel are much worse.
